Closing strong in the portal

Ummm.... there was a grand total of 4 players in the entire SEC that tallied 8+ sacks this past season. And one of them, (Will Anderson Jr. w/10) is expected to go in the top 3 picks of the NFL draft, so I don't think he'll be coming to us through the portal.
Byron Young had 7 for us last year- ranked 49th. Can anyone in the portal match what he did? There is always someone who is waiting to blow up.... maybe tightening up the back end will result in more "coverage" sacks. Maybe the coaches believe in the edges we have.

Ok

But should he come...you rooting for him or agin' him?
If he comes I will root for him but I hope he has changed. If not, he will not make it under the tutelage of Mr. Gardner. He doesn’t put up with shenanigans from any player. He treats everyone the same whether you are a 3 star or 5 star. Go Vols.

Why is everyone so focused on Walter Nolan?I never heard his name mentioned much. He may not be as good as advertised. Who knows though, development is key.
You won’t hear interior d lineman’s names much unless they screw up.

I hope we get them both... i think if nolan enters tennessee will 100% pursue him. DL AND OL is a position you cannot have enough of.

Our DL the past two seasons did a lot of handfighting and not much in the way of pressure in passing situations. It's why our pass defense was one of the worst in the nation. Many here on VN put that on the DBs but in moist cases QBs had all day to pick and choose just waiting for somebody to come clear. If the DBs can cover a good 5 seconds they've done what they're supposed to do and our DL should be getting there and they often didn't. We need DLs that can pressure pass rush.

Correct. Rodney Garner gets drooled on, but our slime pass rush was not good.

You obviously have no idea what you’re talking about
Our pass rush was terrible. Garner is very well regarded. I was impressed with our run defense, but can’t say I’ve seen the D line fulfill its potential rushing the passer. The stats support me.

Tracy Rocker was the best D line coach we’ve had here in a while and that Idiot Pruitt ran him off. His consolation is getting ready to play in a Super Bowl.

7 is less than 8.

What stats? We were tied for 5th in the conference in sacks per game, ahead of Georgia. Knocked a couple of qbs out of the game. Only 2 games did we fail to get any pressure: Georgia and South Carolina.

You said you won’t hear about them. He gave you 3 examples, and knowing him he could have provided more. I can if you need them. Welcome to the board. Don’t move the goalposts.
Ah the great defender. I didn’t say there aren’t names you don’t hear but mainly in todays game interior lineman are just hole pluggers there to take on blocks. Thank you

I didn’t say you said there are names you don’t hear. I used the exact word from your post “there are names you won’t hear”. I can repost your Quote if you’ve forgotten what you sai.

I’m speaking strictly from the front four. Garner had a first round pick at DE, and it certianly didn’t look that way on Saturdays. Of course we had a lot of sacks, because our defense played so many more possessions than other teams. Law of averages. efficiency is what matters.
