Byron Young had 7 for us last year- ranked 49th. Can anyone in the portal match what he did? There is always someone who is waiting to blow up.... maybe tightening up the back end will result in more "coverage" sacks. Maybe the coaches believe in the edges we have.
Heupel is recruiting better. Top 10 class this year with a legitimate chance at a top five for the ‘24 class. And I completely disagree that he’s trying to build the team through the portal. His main focus is recruiting high schoolers and then filling the gaps with the portal.BY had no sacks vs UF, Bama, SC or Georgia so his stats really mean squat.
We just awarded a man $9 mil a year who thinks he's going to build a championship team with mercenaries.
Ask TCU how that worked out.
With a few transfer exceptions we need to recruit better and develope our own talent/depth.
TCU went from 5-7 in 2021 to the National Championship game in 2022. So it looks like the portal worked out pretty well for Dykes.BY had no sacks vs UF, Bama, SC or Georgia so his stats really mean squat.

That’s not the point, without the portal they don’t sniff a playoff spot and are likely a .500 type team. Without the portal that same team you said would have won 7 games in the sec would have likely been a 4-8 sec team.I'm embarassed for you...........TCU would have been a 7 win team had they played an SEC schedule last season.
Yes and no. Someone got those sacks but I get what you're saying. LSU(2.5), KY(1), Clemson (2)- at least he wasn't feasting on Akron or Ball State. Imagine what can happen with a higher ceiling playerBY had no sacks vs UF, Bama, SC or Georgia so his stats really mean squat.

They still ended the year ranked # 2 in the Nation and beat the stew out of Michigan in the playoffs . The SEC is tough, but I think Michigan would be in the top 3-4 if they were in the SEC.I'm embarassed for you...........TCU would have been a 7 win team had they played an SEC schedule last season.

Getting to the final game? We should ask how they got to that point. Are you stupid? Good lordBY had no sacks vs UF, Bama, SC or Georgia so his stats really mean squat.

Congrats! 2.5 sacks against a team we destroyed. And don't try and convince me that we just beat a CFB juggernaut in the Orange Bowl. BY had zero sacks in the 2 games we got our butts kicked and zero against Bama. I agree you have to give your staff "a little time" to build but that doesn't seem to apply to contracts now does it? Its insane to boost Heupel's pay to $9 mil a season when he hasn't delivered a championship. In my world, "close" doesn't cut it, we got embarrassed in Athens and in Columbia. Do you think that deserves a reward? Good Lord man.I see you completely ignored his 2.5 sacks against LSU and 2 big sacks against Clemson. Your narrative is easy to spot and ridiculous. Recruit better? Top 10 this year. I mean sheesh you have to give the guy a little bit of time to build no? Good grief. And Heupels contract? That’s just the way it is. He earned it.
What a totally asinine perspectiveBY had no sacks vs UF, Bama, SC or Georgia so his stats really mean squat.

He delivered the program’s best season in over 20 years, beating two out of the 3 big rivals, including a dominating win over an LSU team we hadn’t beaten in forever and restored respectability to the program. Oh and yes the Clemson win was a big win over an established program who has been to the playoff almost every year since it began and won it twice. Yes they were “down” this year which meant they “only” went 11-2. That must mean they suck now? Regarding salary, is $9 million too much? Normally I would say yes but coaching salaries are going up across the board and UT raised Heupel’s salary to make him only the fifth highest paid coach in the conference. Guess who he was behind before the raise? Kentucky’s coach. I hope you don’t think he deserves to be paid less than the Kentucky coach. I’d argue he’s also better than Jimbo Fisher who is making almost 10 million.Congrats! 2.5 sacks against a team we destroyed. What?!!! So having an 11 win season and beating Bama after 15 years of fustration mounts to nothing? The SC loss was a fluke everyone knows it. He just brought in a top 10 class with the number overall player at the most important position and he’s going after quality not quantity in the portal.Congrats! 2.5 sacks against a team we destroyed.
