He said he knew he wanted to play for the Vols by the time he returned home last weekend, but he “had to think about it for a while” before telling Tennessee coach Josh Heupel’s staff of his decision on Tuesday. “I was just sitting there and I was like, ‘I love everything about it.’ There wasn’t a single con,” said Ginther...“My cousin lives there, too, so all my family will be able to come out and watch me, and it’s closer for them. Everything about it, I love. I went to the airport after I left, and I knew I was committing.”
...He said he first contacted Tennessee offensive graduate assistant Kevin Pendleton...to let the Vols know about his decision. “And then, just on the same phone call, I told the whole staff,” Ginther added. “They were so hyped. They said they’d just had a staff meeting and were, like, saying how much I moved up their board. They said I moved up to, like, (No.) 2 or something, because I was with the team and everyone the whole weekend, and they all loved me, I guess. So they were just saying, like, ‘How can we get this kid?’ and all that stuff. And I called them, like, two minutes after the meeting, so it was pretty cool. They were super excited — every single one of them.”
Ginther said he primarily plays left tackle at his high school, but he has “played both” tackle positions. He said Tennessee’s coaches, including offensive line coach Glen Elarbee, have indicated that they envision him playing right tackle.
...He said the Vols have told him that they like his “aggressiveness,” adding that he has “a big switch” that flips during games. He said he’s “super nice off the field,” but not between the lines. “They really like my athleticism and length, of course, but mostly they like my aggressiveness,” he said. “I don’t think it can really be taught. It’s just something you have and, when I’m on the field, I’m super mean. They like that a lot.” Colorado OL commits to Vols, says Tennessee 'just felt right' after visit
