Coach Cut just ran thru Cincy...

I don't disagree that Jones isn't a sexy hire. That doesn't mean he's a bad hire though. UT is closer to the bottom of the SEC than the top at this point in time. That's not Hart's fault.

is the argument recruiting or development? Recruiting, there isn't an argument. Development, maybe an argument. I wouldn't expect his teams and coaching to be as developed as Brian Kelly. Who would.

The argument is winning something of value in a conference where BCS invites are free. Starting from the top and descending below powerhouses like UConn and Rutgers is awe inspiring.

Accepting this bullshiz line is why we now have Jones.
Pretending to be some tower of morals and academic power didn't help either and yes, much was Hart's fault.

Your point was in relation to his peers. My counterpoint gave you two separate and clear distinctions that say he was better than all of his peers.

BTW, Cincy just ended another 10 win season.

No, it didn't. His program regressed in a conference of garbage and he shared titles with nothing to show. The real winners got the invite.

I think UConn whipped Spurrier in a bowl a couple years back, iirc.

You seem to have your mind made up, and it's obviously not changing. Don't know that I would even watch if I knew more failure was coming.

So my acceptance of the fact that UT has won 16 games (5 in conference) in the last 3 years is why Hart hired Butch?

Didn't realize I was such a mover-and-shaker.

If you've perceived something in your favor, I'm happy to be opposed.

Thank goodness a couple others showed to keep you from the bottom of the barrel.

No one is further down the bottom of the barrel than you... You're 24k gold, heavens hill, soy bean burger, prolly last name Dooley, you're nothing!!!

Illvol- read other posts bc I listed names. Gruden, gundy, strong, and fedora were all contacted before jones. Yes, they all turned it down or hart didn't want to give in to some demands. Either way, jones was the 5th choice and there is no denying that. He acknowledged it in the press conference.

I'm not disagreeing with you about him not being our first choice. I'm asking who we could have hired that you would be happy with as a coach, motivator, and recruiter.

Obviously those first three weren't options and because Hart did his job and didnt allow the coaching search to turn into a media circus (that was done entirely by "the fans") and have all the details of each attempted hire out there, people assume the worst and say Hart must not have done enough.

I'm certain we could have gotten any one of those three to be our next coach had we thrown enough money, options, incentives, buy out clauses, and whatever else but at what point would the fan base turn on him and say we over paid?

Hart had an impossible job of keeping a fan base, football program, and university happy. He hired a compitant coach who has been successful everywhere he has coached to this point, recruited well everywhere he's been to this point, and is an incredible motivator. Jones has built a résumé like anyone else in the world and is taking the next step like all coaches have.

I ask again, who was available that offered the background of Coach Butch Jones including outstanding ethics?

French Army was pushed around by the Third Reich

Napoleon must of been a horrible commander

get what you're trying to say, but VERY bad analogy since they fought in totally different centuries--and Napoleon was DEAD & BURIED!

Not trying to be a homer, but it was VERY EVIDENT that Coach Cut knew EXACTLY how to attack and destroy their defensive scheme...Does it predict anything for the VOLS?

It does make you wonder since Coach Cut is SEC born and bred. :salute:

If first choices as a head coach were important, Rich Rodriguez would be the head coach at Bama right now and I seriously doubt they would be playing for championships. I think Gruden and Gundy were just to make our crazier fans happy. I think Fusher and Cut were playing us for raises. It was Strong or CBJ all along and we knew it.

Scipio Africanus > Flavius Aetius.

Wait, this isn't the military history thread?

I see the same people who wanted to give Dooley "a fair shot" and were so critical of those who could see the obviousness of his incompetency are back in full force with their blind following of the person holding the head coach title, the program be damned. Why people are anything but nervous to have a guy who is going coach our defense barely beat a bad Duke team in a shootout is beyond me.

Yes, how foolish of us to be skeptical of a defensive coach whose defense just gave up 560 yards to Duke. What idiots we are.

Seriously, the same damn arguments from the same people from the Dooley days. How often do you guys have to be wrong to stop pulling out the idiotic sarcasm even though your position makes not a bit of common sense?

Whether we want to admit it or not, in the back of our minds it makes us a little uneasy, when the conference champs are pushed around by a ACC perineal bottom dweller. The 6 degrees of separation is always present :birgits_giggle:

This seriously cheered my spelling Nazi self. :)

(autocomplete has made life entertaining, that's for sure)

LMAO at the folks trying to make this game some kind of bench mark / milestone .

I watched this game to check on the offense , that we might see , next year . It seemed to me to be very close to what we ran last year . Just a little more run oriented .

Stupid little gifs, blind sunshine pumping, whatever smug commentary or points you think you are making, it all comes down to the fact that you all are willing to accept mediocrity in exchange for your quiet acquiescence of people in the AD to get paid good money to underperfrorm at their jobs.
