Rockytop9808 - I'm not going to tell you That your opinion is wrong. I'm telling you my opinion and most of my friends who are vol fans. There are some of my friends who are on board. That's complelty fine. I respect you for it. My own opinion is that it's very hard to get behind a guy that was our 5th choice. Yes he says all the right things. Name drops Peyton manning. Says he's going to bring the best staff in America to Tennessee which I guess means most of the cinci staff, some auburn assistants, and I believe wisconsins wr coach. I expect the response, "well what do you want him to do?" It's simple, do not say things you can't deliver.
I agree whole heartedly with bigpoppavol. You guys keep saying that he isnt bringing his players with him, but aren't the players he recruited, playing this game vs 6-6 duke? The same duke that hasn't been to a bowl game in 18 years...
Regardless of what anyone wants to talk about or the excuses or reasons made from both sides of pro butch or not on the butch bandwagon, the one plain, simple fact is that he was plan "E," like it or not. To me and most others, it's quite bothersome.
Illvol- read other posts bc I listed names. Gruden, gundy, strong, and fedora were all contacted before jones. Yes, they all turned it down or hart didn't want to give in to some demands. Either way, jones was the 5th choice and there is no denying that. He acknowledged it in the press conference.
I don't understand what # choice he was matters except for pride to say we got our first pick. Who cares. Who says the first 4 choices would win as many games in 3 years as CBJ? Because they were first choices? That means success?
Ridiculous. Chances of success for all the ones we were looking at were 50/50. CBJ included. He'll either work out or he won't.
And when he won the Big East championship while being named Big East coach of the year?
How was he relative to his peers that year?
And the influx of papa johns pizza's. Yes, it looks more appealing as you look at it..
But, Do they have a "Mouses Ear"?
How did he miss the BCS? The conference has been repeatedly represented by garbage and is again this year. Somehow, he's outside looking in. All those conference titles seem to mean second place.
Your point was in relation to his peers. My counterpoint gave you two separate and clear distinctions that say he was better than all of his peers.
BTW, Cincy just ended another 10 win season.
