Coach Dooley, thank you for what you did!

what did he do?

His admirable actions were clearly overshadowed by losses, so please don't respond with "0-6" or what not, cause that' s implied

1. Embraced all UT traditions
2. Brought in quality men that have kept us out trouble with the NCAA & the police (Clear & Bonner, but nothing like Fulmer or Kiffin)
3. Compiled & coached the best offense in Tennessee history
4. Took the job in the first place with a thin roster that he knew would not be competitive
5. Kept his chin up and never made excuses for the loads of important injuries he's had to deal with - dealt with next guy up even though he was probably a walk on
6. Started VFL program and encouraged old UT players to come back whenever they wanted
7. His task was to make us competitive this year, and although we went 0-4 in close games, you could argue it was just as much poor player execution in those last few minutes (interceptions, dropped passes, fumbles, out of position)
8. Even shower discipline

I'm sure there is a lot more from speaking arrangements, PR standpoint, etc; but in my mind, he bled orange, just didn't get the results we all wanted obviously

I always liked Dooley, and he has had some of the worst luck i have ever seen on the football field since game one. I think alot of it has been his coordinators letting him down with substitutions and such. This year though seems like when we're close he puts the game on his players shoulders (Tyler Bray mostly) and they just can't win the game. Fumbles, interceptions, and some questionable play calling, falling back on his coordinators shoulders. I wish him luck in the future.

Thanks Coach Dooley, You have shown UT how to lose in so many ways, previously thought impossible. You have presided over the lowest point in Tennessee Football History. You have made the Vols the punch line of so many sportscasters and the laughing stock of the SEC. You have given UT a valuable lesson in how to select our next Football coach and for all this I'd like to thank you to please make it stop....enough is enough...Thanks for everything Coach Dooley

Sitting on the ball with .40+ seconds really just killed it for me.

Same here. I'm beyond the point of even trying to acknowledge any positives that Dooley may have been responsible for while he's been here. In my eyes, they are completely inconsequencial compared to the damage he's done!!

We have 40 seconds on the clock with 2 time outs. Our offense had moved the ball all day long against their defense. Our defense hadn't stopped running water in the 2nd half and is ranked dead last in the NCAA in red zone defense. Why on EARTH would you not at least give your offense a chance to win it for you in the last 40 seconds of the game?? Not only that, why would you entrust your defense to stop anybody in overtime?? I swear it's like that fool is coaching in the twilight zone!

ALL inconsequencial compared to the damage he's done to this program!! That's like somebody who drives their family off of a cliff and then giving him credit because he made sure they were all wearing seat belts!

Yes thank you Coach. You took over a program at rock bottom but you weren't satisfied. No you hired a jack hammer and took us lower. No one thought it could be done but you did it.

You know some of you guys really can piss me off sometimes.

Dooley took this job and embraced this school when no one else wanted the wreck Kiffin had left. He put integrity back into this team and, as stated earlier, hung tough with a parade of top ten teams.

He had some bad luck along the way and made some bad luck of his own, but through it all, he bled orange through and through.

I agree, he has to be fired, however. The results just arent there. That being said, the man deserves to get the credit for the good things he did and in the good manner in which he piloted this program through the toughest time its ever seen.

So for those of you who like to belittle people from your mom's basement, think about it before you open your mouth. You might just be proving how stupid you really are.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I want him fired just as much as the next guy but I do believe he did the best job he could, some guys just aren't cut out to be a big time coach. I believe Dooley loves Tennessee and gave his all for Tennessee even when it was tough walking into the offices after a loss that they should have won. I think we are in a lot better shape then we were before he showed up and I think we have Dooley to thank for that. Now it's time for the right hire and for whoever is the new coach to bring us back to the top of the mountain where we belong.

I posted this in another thread, but it is important to me how this situation is handled ... Dooley has done a lot of admirable things for my school & he has bled orange while doing it. Orange pants for God's sake! He's also had some of the worst luck I've ever witnessed on the football field. He deserves some respect through this process IMO

Respect him as a person? Yes. Respect him as a professional football coach? No.

Please, just stop! Dooley took a job that paid 4 times what he was making at LA Tech and he's going to walk out of here 5 million dollars richer for NOT doing his job!! Some of you act like Dooley took this job out of some charitable favor to us! I don't blame the guy for taking the job, hell I would that that job! However stop trying to make some kind of martyr out of the guy just because he sucks as a coach!

Our offense moved the ball all day long against their defense until it really mattered with a little over 5 minutes left in the game. Then they went 3 and out, gained nothing, and took a grand total of 40 seconds off the clock. Then in the last possession, they gained nothing in 2 more plays. I guess by that time, he had seen enough to know he could not depend on the offense, or the field goal kicker, or the punter. The last 6 plays in overtime gained nothing except a punt.

Please tell me who else wanted the job? And could have done a better job? He did the best he could, didn't say he didn't suck as a coach because he does. He's better suited for a positions job or dII.

You guys rant on him because you are mad that he's getting paid. I suppose you want him to leave and take nothing.

The question earlier asked wasn't "can the new coach win next year". The question was "do you think the program is in better shape than when he was hired".

If the new coach can't win right away and has to build the program, than how is it better off now?

The new coach will be taking over after the worst 3 year stretch in school history.

How can it possibly be better now that what quality talent there is will be leaving school?

give me a list of coaches that you would expect to come into any coaching situation and beat 4 top 10 teams in their first year next year, with road trips to Ore, Fla and Bama included.

I'll wait.

I mentioned nothing of schedule.

Dooley inherited a roster that was lacking.

The new coach will inherit a roster that is lacking.

The new coach will need time to get a competitive roster.

2nd verse same as the 1st
