Coach Jones to speak before Saban

You also have a right to take a dump on your living room carpet. You have the right to do a lot of really stupid stuff.

If you **** on my carpet, your bammer balls are my new hunting trophy.

Dude. Read. Read the words.

When the whole eastern side of Tennessee runs on UT. Saban, an Alabama coach, speaking in eastern Tennessee does have effects on the economy there. If UT loses one fan over the speech, then it hurts them in terms of dollars.

Explain how Saban's speech could possibly sway a UT fan? Why would the UT fan be there in the first place?

If you get a response from the Chamber prez, please promise you'll post it.

I'm sure it will go something like this:

Dear DelusionalRedneckDipsh&tWhoThinksIGiveARatsA$$,

While the city of Athens is trying to figure out how we will survive the boycott of your bi-weekly financial infusion (which consists of a Big Gulp & Slim Jim from the Jiffy on the corner of Decatur Pike and Old Riceville Road) you can rest assured we take solace in knowing the collective IQ of our fine city will increase due to your boycott.

Regards,

Why is Saban there in the first place? That's the question someone in Athen's Chamber needs to answer.

The sheepish fans would. People wanting to root for a winner. Bandwagon fans would be the ones. It's 9 AM here, and work in a theater. You'd be surprised what you see.

what's wrong with a big gulp and a slim jim? GFY bamawriter....I know this is you.

Why is Saban there in the first place? That's the question someone in Athen's Chamber needs to answer.

They sold less than 300 tickets with Fulmer and players from the '98 team last year.

They sold 1000 this year.

That's why Saban is going to be there. What other explanation do you want?

I would think those fans jumped ship a while ago.

The reality is that the 1000 folks showing up to this event are Bama fans. This isn't propaganda or a stump speech. It's the Athens CoC raising money by hosting an event that a certain segment of the population will pay to see. The same event was geared toward another segment of the population last year, but without as much success. As an economics major, surely you understand why they might change their target audience if they have the ability to increase their take by 300%.

I get that. I really do. What you're failing to grasp is they could have picked 1000 other people in this country that speak at these type of engagements, that were a departure from the norm, and sold just as many tickets. However, they PICKED Saban.....the coach of our most hated rival.

Do you not get this or are you just playing around?

I'm not sure who you think might have generated the same ticket sales as Saban. I mean someone realistic. Justin Bieber ain't coming to play a show for the Athens CoC.

Saban has philanthropic obligations built into his contract.

Barry Sanders, Ted Nugent, Bill Clinton, George Clinton, George Lopez, Howard the Duck.......

it's only 1000 tickets after being promoted all over East TN. You and the jackhole from Coral Springs, FL could get 999.

Again....for your reading pleasure....it's who is speaking that is the issue for many of us. Many, many other good choices out there.

Guys, bamawriter represents the crimson cause consistently, articulately, and well. I will admit that his “I-insist-upon-getting-the-last-word-in-any-conversation-I-choose-to-stick-my-nose-into” attitude can be profoundly irritating. You can even advance a defensible argument that it violates the code of courtesy that one should be able to expect from visitors entering the cyber territory of their rivals. However, if you really find his remarks that offensive, the most straightforward solution is to simply hit that “ignore” icon. If you choose to engage him in intellectual combat, you had better bring your “A” game. Unfortunately, many of my orange-blooded comrades who choose to cross sabers with him, tend to respond emotionally, even viscerally, and that often does not reflect ideally upon them or the Big Orange Nation.

Were trying to build UT into a new powerhouse. Having Saban speaking in Eastern Tennessee is not helping that. This is where we go into cost vs. benefit.

He's just not going to hear it. He can't (or rather won't) grasp it because he enjoys the banter too much. He's one of those trolls that thrive on it. You just stated plainly the issue, about as well as it could be said, and he will continue the "it's not that big a deal" campaign. I completely agree with you, it is a big deal, thus my negative e-mail to the Athen's Chamber. I'll sleep fine tonight....but as Vol fans, we have every right to criticize this move. As we've all stated....Athens could have gotten Dave Ramsey to speak and sold 1,000 tickets. They chose to do this, I chose to fuss at them, and that is that.

If you choose to boycott business in Athens, that's cool and that's your right. I just used it as filler to fuss at the Chamber.

Bammer, lemme tell you, I'm done with playing into your hand....I'm sitting on the top deck, overlooking the Smoky Mountains, with the Allman Brothers playing in the loft over the Koss 1As.....sound like they're live & my first Michelob of the day in my hand. Life is good. I will not let you troll me anymore....you know I am right and that's good enough for me. :hi:

I would love to have a Michelob. They aren't sold here. Theory says what isn't a big deal, and practice shows that it is a big deal.

It doesn't suck.....that's for sure lol. I took the wife to the airport in Knoxville at 6 this morning and my dad picked up my son to spend part of spring break with him....so.....I've got the house to myself. Next up, a little Pink Floyd Animals and more Michelob!

Can you send 2 cases to California! That's an amazing day all together. You're a lucky man. Enjoy sir.

Is it hurting? If so, how? Not everything has to either help or hurt. It can do neither.

So, "Yes" would be the answer to my question.

That's good. I'd rather you lie about doing something dumb than actually do it.

We are all liars. Have you ever lied? Deflecting with personal attacks is the first sign of someone who has lost an arguement. It's ok, I'm not always right either....most of the time but not always.

You know as well as I do the Athens COC could have gotten many people to sell 1000 tickets. Admit that.

No personal attacks....no deflecting. Admit it. For the same money, could the Athens COC have gotten someone else to draw 1000 people and avoid all of this controversy?

I know you're dying to attack me again...but stop...and admit it.

The guy in Athens that booked Saban and claims to be a tennessee "fan" should have his vol card revoked and all his tennessee clothes seized.

I'm guessing one of two things about this bammer. He's either:

A. A Napoleon Dynamite type that lives in his mom's basement.

or

B: The President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce

No, trolling is saying something with no purpose other than getting a reaction. In this case, you and I simply disagree.

As far as we can tell, your whole purpose in life is to post on a rival's message board, defending any slight to good old Alabama and making sure Tennessee fans know their place. You don't appear to be here for discussion. You appear to be here to talk down to us. And it looks like at least a couple of mods are sick of it.

If you're any kind of a writer then you understand perfectly well the tone that comes across in your posts. If you want to keep posting here, you're going to need to change that tone. Your choice.

I do think we have to face reality and say that inside the chamber of commerce in the community of Athens, there are a lot, atleast 1000 traitors to our homeland. Just like the french women who slept with the Nazis. We need to get the names of the attendees so proper action can be taken against them. The supporters are listed on the chamber website, absolutely we need to boycott them and then we need to get the names of the persons attending. We need to make their lives a living hell from here on. Saban and Alabama are the enemy. We must attack them and all their supporting structure at every opportunity. Remember, we dealing the kind of scum that will even stoop so low as to kill historic trees.
