Anything that makes more obstacle for Butch Jones hurts him. Anything that can possibly can take away much needed money from the university hurts.
As far as we can tell, your whole purpose in life is to post on a rival's message board, defending any slight to good old Alabama and making sure Tennessee fans know their place. You don't appear to be here for discussion. You appear to be here to talk down to us. And it looks like at least a couple of mods are sick of it.
If you're any kind of a writer then you understand perfectly well the tone that comes across in your posts. If you want to keep posting here, you're going to need to change that tone. Your choice.
Explain the "obstacle" that Saban speaking at a CoC event in an area where he isn't recruiting anyone puts in front of Jones.
And Saban's appearance isn't deprive UT of money. UA isn't getting anything for Saban's time.
I don't think UA's football program is hurting for exposure to the point that a thousand seat venue is critical in getting our name out there.
You know as well as I do the Athens COC could have gotten many people to sell 1000 tickets. Admit that.

I'm not sure that many of the people you named could have sold out the event. I'm sure there are many who could.
But if the '98 Vols could barely get over 25% capacity, then maybe it's not as easy as you and I might think it is.

I feel good. I figue that's as close as I'll probably get to an admission.
How long was Fulmer coach? How many times did he tour the state? (I can tell you I worked no less than 5 events in Nashville alone and that's nowhere close to the total). It's like living in St. Louis....no one will rush out to see the Budweiser horses....but you bring them to (anywhere USA) and they draw a crowd. Surely you're not this dense?
I am not talking down to UT fans in general. And I'm not talking down to rockytophigh, et al because they are UT fans. They could be fans of any team, I'd be saying the same thing.
If I haven't made that clear, I apologize. But I'm in no way knocking anyone simply because they are a Vol. There are way too many intelligent and thoughtful posters on here for me to lay out blanket statements.
I see the point you are trying to make. But that's like saying the Rolling Stones should never come to Boston, because there are a ton of Aerosmith fans in Boston and they might get upset.
Fans of other teams can add a unique perspective are always welcome here. However, keep in mind that this is a Tennessee board and those who support other schools should be respectful of the Tennessee program and fans.
