My hope is that they don't feel like they have to hire a former Lady Vol. Get the best coach. PERIOD. The Vol football and basketball programs don't feel like they have to hire a former Vol and I don't think any of the elite programs in women's basketball feel like they have to hire a former player. Best coach with a proven track record.

I hate that she wasn’t successful but she just wasn’t good enough in her time here. She also was a Fulmer hire so probably made the leash a little shorter for White.

I think White is going after a big fish with a blank check.

This was the right move, regardless of who we end up with.

Kellie was never the right hire at UT, it was reported that they contacted Kara, but she showed no interest because the administration was in turmoil at the time. IDK who the new coach will be but I’m leaning we should be going after a big time proven winner.

The part that caught my interest was the posts from the Duke side. Very worried, saying this was the only job she would leave them for. They want to keep her and her recruiting class ... almost changes my mind on her coming.

DW doesn’t hire someone who played for Pat
DW hires someone with no association to the program…An outsider
DW doesn’t hire a female coach
DW hires either DS or KM

VQ kept insisting Kelly was getting another season (kind of like their narrative on Pruitt pre-investigation) and I eventually fell in line, but it never jibed with Dan White’s modus operandi in his various AD tenures. Dude doesn’t stand pat when there’s little or no positive momentum in one of his programs, as opposed to what we’ve witnessed with his predecessors in Knoxville…including Dickey. The license he allowed Harper was about as fair a vetting as his process would allow imo. New hires are served notice that they’ll be given all the resources and support to succeed, but that clock started five seconds before the signature hits paper.

if we end up with someone less proven, its not better. i’m all for firing kellie, it was 100% needed, but we need a proven coach who has beaten the good teams and can show they can recruit.

I know it's a long shot. But I wonder if someone like the ND or Stanford coach would take it. Someone who respected Pat and wants to see the LV good again.

It sounds like DW wanted staff changes and Kelly said no.

DW has shown himself to be weak and subject to which way the wind blows. He brought in a baseball coach that is an embarrassment to the university. That program is now known for vulgarity, poor sportsmanship and generally being a bunch of punks. I am tremendously concerned that the tradition Pat established of a national contender AND a class program is headed for the ash heap.

Just very sorry for a good person, good coach who has been treated unfairly by someone who isn’t even a member of the UT family.

I will continue to support the Lady Vols through thick and thin. I will hope for a new coach we can be proud of but now have significant doubts about DW’s judgment. A very sad day for UT WBB.

You are in the minority and totally wrong about White. TN athletics is at it's peak probably ever. Won the SEC All-Sports trophy for best overall athletic programs 2 yr running. You don't oversee that and be incompetent as you want to believe he is.

Its a business that Kellie totally understands. Its not her first rodeo. She is being paid well to stay home for awhile.

He’s old… is my only hot take. Wouldn’t be a long term hire. Would get 5-10 years max. Then we’re doing this again…

I have an inside source that says Tennessee has offered big money to Geno Auriemma and Chris Daly (OK, it is April fools after all).

I have to say, seeing that headline on ESPN caught my attention and thought for a second it must be an April fools joke. I have no opinion on if she should have, or should not have, but I was surprised that she was let go.
