I don’t think there will be any interest from either party anyhow. Both UT and Kara lit fires to their end of that bridge when Kellie was hired.

I have to start every post by saying I've been wrong about it all.

But that's exactly what I think. The direction of the program is definitely concerning, but I believe they would have waited a year given the injuries etc this year, if not for that godforsaken 1.1 second. That whole thing, the whole image was just devastating beyond anything which KJH was likely to recover from. If we had beaten NC State possibly, but I think Kamilla's shot, and typical of KJH's epic bad luck also the missed obvious double dribble that enabled it, was the straw that broke Kellie's back. Not to speak of my heart. Still can't get over it.

I agree, it’s a moment I’ll never forgot. Kellie’s decision in that moment seemed to really hurt her! You could tell she just didn’t really know what she wanted to do in that situation. She seemed frantic and unsure, I could be totally wrong as she sometimes always looks like that, but in that particular moment, it was very observable.

The 2 decisions to not pressure the ball and to leave Kamilla, completely wide open seemed to prove too costly. Those were coaching decisions that could’ve easily been avoided with common sense in my mind.

Right. Which is why the poor defensive set up did KJH in.

BTW, I noticed she used the same set up in every other inbound in every game. Little to no ball pressure, but also no pressure on whoever was left to guard. Used kind of a floater, the way she set Rickea up that horrible night. I'll never understand.

Sorry for the hyperbolic response. Kara has generally been an unfavorable choice on here since the last coaching search.

Biggest knock then was not enough experience. Now she has the experience but what she has shown isn’t very impressive. Her teams do play with consistent defensive intensity and grit, but have absolutely no organized offense.

do we look to head coaches of major programs or are the mid majors fair game?

Major Candidates:
Nicki Collen, Baylor (74-28)
Niele Ivey, Notre dame (89-32) and three straight trips to the sweet sixteen

Mid Majors
Lisa Fortier, Gonzaga (265-83) impressive 80% win percent but never goes very far in the tournament. Only two sweet sixteen trips in 10 years. Maybe she wants to be somewhere where she can go further?
Kim Caldwell, Marshall (217-31) first season in division one ball but an impressive career so far.
Lindy La Rocque, UNLV (102-22) like some of these other candidates, dominate in the regular season but struggles in the tournament.
Bart Brooks, Belmont (146-46) local candidate who has made trips to the tournament in all seasons except the covid season and made it to the second round twice
Carla Berube, Princeton (484-113) won everywhere she's been. Kind of an ivey league pedigree, but she's lost 17 games in four years at Princeton and is 48
Karl Smesko (611-110), dominant in the regular season but struggles in the tournament. Never made it further than the second round but he's won a lot of games over his career.

Good list! Some quick thoughts for discussion purpose

Not likely on Ivey, she is Fighting Irish to the core.
Collen - maybe.

Fortier, probably not enough NCAA success.
Caldwell, probably does not have near enough of a D1 track record. Hard to be a great recruiter from her position. White would be crushed if she failed,. Too much risk.
Rocque, same as Fortier
Brooks - he is interesting. He has seriously over achieved for this level of school and has produced several WNBA players. He would be a longer run build over time, rather than a big splash, hire.
Berube - an another possibility. A bit like Brooks. Done really well for her level of school. Recruiting capabilities is again the question. She is a good X and O coach
Smesko - much like Brooks and Berube. Had done very well for the level of school.

The other path would be to grab a promising assistant coach from a currently elite program (and who is a known recruiter).

With White hiring a national search firm, and him having pretty much all sports at UT super successful right now, you can guarantee he will be bringing in a big name. I thank Kellie for her time and she will always be a LVFL, but it was time, and DW knew it as well.

I've been wrong about it all.

But in my over review of that video, KJH wasn't at all unsure or frantic. Just stubborn and wrong. She directed traffic to exactly where she wanted it. It also looks like Joy says to her "the ball" or "on the ball" a couple of times. But she didn't relent in her decision.

Alot of people blame Rickea and TK bc neither reacted to the inbound. And it would have looked a helluva lot better if they had. But bottom line is don't set them up 12 ft from the ball and expect them to get there in 1.1.

The play that will go down in infamy. I think at that moment, it just got set in stone that it was never, ever going to happen for KJH.

Truly disappointed with this decision. Kellie deserved at least one more year. She is a class act and brought in a team of exemplary student athletes. I never worried about how Kellie, her staff or the team would represent my alma mater.

DW has shown himself to be weak and subject to which way the wind blows. He brought in a baseball coach that is an embarrassment to the university. That program is now known for vulgarity, poor sportsmanship and generally being a bunch of punks. I am tremendously concerned that the tradition Pat established of a national contender AND a class program is headed for the ash heap.

Just very sorry for a good person, good coach who has been treated unfairly by someone who isn’t even a member of the UT family.

I will continue to support the Lady Vols through thick and thin. I will hope for a new coach we can be proud of but now have significant doubts about DW’s judgment. A very sad day for UT WBB.
