Coach Kellie Harper fired

Fudd is correct. We have really put ourselves in a tough spot. Getting a top tier coach now will require a very big salary jump, a significant (top3) NIL game and a buyout that will make your eyes water. Not saying we can’t do it but I am afraid this time next week some will be saying “Yayyy we got rid of Kellie and we got…….. wait, who?”
A really successful coach at a P5 program would be stupid to come here without all of the above.
You do realize the money from TV contracts SEC schools are getting. Money is not an issue and TN Lady Vols is one of few schools that can generate dollars through attendance. I liked Kellie she coached with integrity and Grace with Humility. She was not getting it done to Lady Vol level TN is not Vandy Ole Miss ect were getting into tournament is good enough. It was time. Kellie has made millions here so she can sit back on front porch raise her children taking a TV Job during season. GOD Bless.

She must’ve edited it because it was DEFINITELY this article. I asked for the same article earlier today and was provided this and remember reading it in the first or second paragraph. We would not have pulled this out our a**!

Some names to think about that White might have made a move on would include coaches that just lost in the SS or EE, the timing seems right for that. I know the Oregon State coach seems locked in at his school, but they are dropping to a mid conference next year, maybe White has targeted him. Seems natural some of his better players would want to stay at the higher level and maybe move with him. I think the Gonzaga coach could be an option also, as well as the coach from Mississippi tbh, though I suspect coach Yo is not at the top of his list. She is frustrated with the support from Miss though and she would listen. Keep an eye on the Iowa State coach as well….
This is my short list of thoughts

So either MC taking creative license with journalism as per usual. Or an actual fact that wasn’t meant to be published. We shall never know.

Odds are MC though adding that would soften the blow and when she saw it actually further enraged people she removed it.

She has corrected it officially now.

Tell me you don't follow the Baseball team (outside of ESPN and media talking heads) without telling me you don't follow the Baseball team, or college baseball at all apparently. All of which is honestly fine. And you might be able to find real examples of DW not being a good AD, I don't know. But using the Baseball team as you are is just wrong. We have some of the best men that represent UT on that team and MANY that PS would be proud of in their outreach, how the represent themselves and the school, their class, and how they handle themselves as young men and members of society.
💯

If I’m an SEC women’s basketball Coach, I am happy right now, (and yes, that includes DS and KM), because TN just lost a Coach that has beaten their team.

Coach Kellie has always done more with less, and anybody who has watched the games knows that, and our roster was improving. The last team to beat TN is now playing in the Final Four, so far. Yeah, we were really bad.

Right now, if I’m an AD from another school who‘s looking for a better Coach, I’m contacting Coach Kellie, holding all the money I can come up with, because, right now, Coach Kellie is one of the best Coaches available.
You need to be drug tested. Kellie was fired because of inability to perform her job in a winning manner. Remember the 1.1 second brain phart? That alone could have got her another year. Face it, she blew it. Now she’s gone. And while I’m at it, if Phil Fulmer had not caved to the LV Mafia she would never have been hired. Flame away. I don’t give a Ratz Vol.
She is gone so get over it.

You don’t ask them to leave unless you have the players to replace them.
That’s what a coach will probably do, they bring in their own players, and then they will ask some to transfer if they don’t want them. But some players will leave anyway before all of that happens.

White’s hire of Heupal was not met with great aplomb, but it was a great hire, likely he does same here but again, I think he has targeted some coach already that made the SS or EE. Look at the timing. Oregon State, Iowa State, Gonzaga or Ole Miss coaches come to my mind first.

Since we're all crazy speculating, if DW did offer a "path forward" which meant he dictated change of assistants, KJH probably correctly interpreted that as a loss of control of the program to the AD that was going to continue to creep forward next year. In my fan fiction, KJH heroically declined that prolonged painful path for the good of the program and for her own sanity. One thing I begrudged Holly was hanging on for dear life and having to be drug away kicking and screaming. KJH thankfully decided not to do that. And her assistants were apparently getting fired either way.
Ya know what i said about having to adapt to new information.

It turns out it was all fan fiction. MMC has retracted that claim and now reports that Kellie was never offered a path forward. A lot of sturm and drang for nothin'.

It’s the article by Maria Cornelius so take or leave it. She’s a Lady Vol homer/fan who has a tough time with objectivity.

Doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility and if anyone was going to have that scoop it is indeed probably her. Only one uncouth enough to ask Kellie about it today I’m sure.

Would screen shot and post here but she tends to lose her mind if you share her content on VolNation. She hates this place because she can’t rule it with an iron first and orange tinted glasses.
All the more reason to post it… 😈

If all you've got is Burke's middle-finger brain fart (which sold a lot of t-shirts for good causes, by the way), then you need to re-evaluate the standards you are holding these athletes to. They will never, ever meet your expectations and you are painting a coach who has done more than almost any other coach in any other sports for this university in quite some time with a broad brush and conveniently ignoring the massive amounts of good and good PR for the ENTIRE university in the process.

Your other comment about the players looking like skateboarders is pure trash, by the way. Looked at any other baseball teams these days? Who cares what they look like? They put the orange on and give their all - that's all that matters.
That was definitely not good PR on ESPN. Also, I love UT and enjoyed my time in Knoxville. But Knoxville is really its own ecosystem and what goes for good ole bro’ fun there is not universally admired.
Consequently anyone thinking we are getting either of the USC coaches (and any fabulous freshmen they have) are sorely mistaken. National reputations matter.

do we look to head coaches of major programs or are the mid majors fair game?

Major Candidates:
Nicki Collen, Baylor (74-28)
Niele Ivey, Notre dame (89-32) and three straight trips to the sweet sixteen

Mid Majors
Lisa Fortier, Gonzaga (265-83) impressive 80% win percent but never goes very far in the tournament. Only two sweet sixteen trips in 10 years. Maybe she wants to be somewhere where she can go further?
Kim Caldwell, Marshall (217-31) first season in division one ball but an impressive career so far.
Lindy La Rocque, UNLV (102-22) like some of these other candidates, dominate in the regular season but struggles in the tournament.
Bart Brooks, Belmont (146-46) local candidate who has made trips to the tournament in all seasons except the covid season and made it to the second round twice
Carla Berube, Princeton (484-113) won everywhere she's been. Kind of an ivey league pedigree, but she's lost 17 games in four years at Princeton and is 48
Karl Smesko (611-110), dominant in the regular season but struggles in the tournament. Never made it further than the second round but he's won a lot of games over his career.
Thanks for the list. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'd love it if it's Fortier. Dominate your level, then move up.

265-63 overall, 154-22 in conference. Won the conference 8 of 10 years.

This year lost to Louisville by 11, but beat Stanford and Alabama. Last year lost to Stanford by 21, but beat Louisville by 12 (in OT?!) and beat, well, us.

Results are a lot like Wes Moore at UTC.

Very offensive minded, which would be a nice change

AGAIN, even if it were possible on the UConn/LV scale, she and many other promising young coaches are off the list because apparently E TN is just not ready for a husband/wife coaching team. We've started setting limits already.

Huh? Firing a failing coach who just happened to have her husband on staff isn’t going to automatically make us a destination that isn’t attractive for wife-husband duos. That’s nonsense.

people saying elite players dont grow on trees must not have watched this program during the 90's we had multiple AA coming off the bench somewhat like SC does today. Let's not let that go for not this was great move now bring us a power house coach please DW. No more cheap hires.
