Coach Kellie Harper fired

I feel like I’ve said this before but my feelings are not hurt. Why do men always attribute hurt feelings and too emotional to women that are disagreeing with them?
I hate that DW did not give Kellie the opportunity to recruit with adequate NIL and coach a team that lightened up a too heavy early season OOC and maybe didn’t have significant injuries every dang year. She deserved another year. DW caved.
We are in a very tough spot. People calling for Kellie to be fired failed to understand how this move looks to recruits and other coaches. It looks like the fan base and weak AD will chew up and spit out a coach that doesn’t win now regardless of lack of NIL and untimely injuries.
Kelly wasn't good for 5 years. She was bad at NC St. She signed 1 HS player over the last 2 years and she's now at Vandy. Kelly didn't exactly have anything to sell to keep her job.

we don’t want coach yo. Same results kellie has brought. offense is horrible.
Agreed we could have kept mediocre kellie if we ditched her for someone below her finishing results. sorry coach yo but you are coming just wont be at UT. or in the SEC with Dawn , Kim and Now Vic coming on board.

Brilliant. 50/50. That will be $9.99 please.
He only gets credit if this hire is program changing knocking it out the park otherwise he fell to the consensus *Me included* without a plan and then we need to start calling for his job next because he clearly see's how serious the womens basketball program is when it comes to Tennessee basketball lol .

Okay so since we were correct about Cora’s article timing, do you think Cora’s list article has any relevance? Part of me wonders but then I see Shea Ralph and wonder if she is just throwing arrows at a board

Do you mean the one on the buyout. Events have affirmed my original hunch (and many others) that her report was a signal of pending change. Skeptics failed to appreciate the difference between a beat reporter and a columnist like John Adams. The latter are paid to throw bomb for clicks. The latter, for better or worse, often function as PR outlets for institutions. No doubt someone in the UTAD office wanted to send a signal without making it official. Or in other words, you don't decide to run that story if Kellie was not going to axed because your sources would be seriously, seriously upset.

Her more recent story on replacements... I am not sure how to read that. It could be a wish list someone in the UTAD circulated or Hall just going through the who's who list. USA Today ran with a similar list.
Niele Ivey, for example, seems incredibly unlikely given her history with Notre Dame. So, I am with you in thinking that it is more just a list of potential names than a signal.

Thanks for the list. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'd love it if it's Fortier. Dominate your level, then move up.

265-63 overall, 154-22 in conference. Won the conference 8 of 10 years.

This year lost to Louisville by 11, but beat Stanford and Alabama. Last year lost to Stanford by 21, but beat Louisville by 12 (in OT?!) and beat, well, us.

Results are a lot like Wes Moore at UTC.

Very offensive minded, which would be a nice change

Would also love Fortier. That 80% win percentage is magical. Usually translate, if you know how to win, you know how to win. Kellie was career 60% and did about that.

***UPDATE ON THIS POST: We got to the bottom of this . Not sure how to delete posts though.***

So interesting that no other article or reporter or post mentions anything about something that huge. That she was given an option to stay? And no one is reporting on that? Weird.

From what ive learned about Ivey's salary i would not rule her out when it comes $$$...She wants to be an all time great coach and those deserve an investment when it comes to $$ . Not sure how much loyalty versus lifestyle matters to her though.

So either MC taking creative license with journalism as per usual. Or an actual fact that wasn’t meant to be published. We shall never know.

Odds are MC though adding that would soften the blow and when she saw it actually further enraged people she removed it.
Interesting.

Azzi Fudds dad…. Uconn pages are shocked she was fired been on quite a few now

When your rivals quite clearly wanted you to keep your coach, that tells you that it was the right decision to move on. Reminds me of when Kevin Stallings publicly defended Cuonzo Martin at one point. You’ve seen Barnes do it with coaches who were floundering at other programs. When your rivals want your coach to stick around, it’s because they know you were never going to be a serious factor with that coach.

I really hope you are right. She would be awesome.

How NIL funds are allocated is only speculation. We do not know what has or hasn't been allocated for women's basketball. This is a common excuse for Kellie's poor high school recruiting, but it is not supported by publicly available information.

It looks like the fan base and weak AD will chew up and spit out a coach that doesn’t win now regardless of lack of NIL and untimely injuries.
There is no justification for referring to Danny White as being a "weak AD." Once again, you are making excuses for Kellie Harper. She had a fair chance. She was held accountable for underachievement, as every coach should be.

The poster who spread the “NIL is the problem” narrative is the same poster who belittled posters who thought Kellie would get canned. This supposed insider poster was adamant that Kellie wasn’t going anywhere. Sometimes message board posters, even supposed insiders, aren’t as in the know as they portray themselves to be.

Fact is that she didn’t recruit worth a nickel before NIL. Rickea was the only championship caliber player she was responsible for bringing in.

Yeah, I meant the buyout article. We both looked at the timing and Cora of all people to put it out there. It was too much of a coincidence.

I have been going back and forth on the list article. Like you, I wonder if it was again UTAD letting her in on something. Niele and Shea are both kind of wild guesses, but I do wonder if the target is somewhere on there. Might just be me being a conspiracy theorist again though 🙂

.... We have really put ourselves in a tough spot. Getting a top tier coach NOW will require a very big salary jump, a significant (top3) NIL game and a buyout ...
What would it have required yesterday?

Her son is Jaden Ivey on the Detroit Pistons, and he and Tamika Catchings were chatting at the most recent All-Star game about how funny it is that they were both participating in the events. Apparently he and Tamika got to know each other when he was a child and his mother was an assistant for a team Tamika played for.

So there is at least a slight TN connection with her.
