Coach Kellie Harper fired

For me, a home run hire would be getting Oregon State’s coach just before they dip to mid major as the PAC12 dissolves. He has a young team and could bring many of the good ones that want to stay at higher level, but in the end he is a great coach also. Iowa State coach ditto. Then Gonzaga coach or Ole Miss coach.

Unfortunate but just what it is. If she doesn’t have it in her heart to wait and see who the new hire is and give them a chance, so be it.

That was part of the issue though, we have one signee for 2025, one for 2027 and???? Yes we will miss Nyla is she chooses a different school, but Harper couldn’t continue at that rate.

Not to mention 0 for 2023, 1 for 2024 and 1 for 2022 that transferred.

It’s supposed to be a recruiting CLASS not a recruit.

U can have Lawson
It could be Lawson if bridges are still intact, she is a helluva recruiter and coach tbh. She seems locked in at Duke however, never know, I’d take the Oregon State coach over her though, maybe the Iowa State Coach as well.

It’s not hard to get it. The fact we have so many on here who are borderline terrified of who we are going to hire to replace a failed coach is wild to me.

CKH is an LVFL and always conducted herself with class. I appreciate her efforts. It’s not going to be hard to upgrade contradictory to what the Kellie defenders say.

All of this "Tennessee will never hire a man " or "Tennessee will never hire outside of the LV family" or even this one "Tennessee will never hire an african american" will be the same reasons "Tennessee loses its relevancy forever" smh. Please DW think win first outside of what the boosters or insiders/outsiders say.

we don’t want coach yo. Same results kellie has brought. offense is horrible.

“It’s supposed to a recruiting CLASS not a recruit.” I’m screaming 😂💀

For me it’s about which recruits we get, we can get 5 recruits in the 25 class but if none are elite or do anything it doesn’t matter to me. Nyla Brooks is an elite recruit, so whoever come in better get someone elite from that class.

Yeah only difference is her teams play with slightly more passion defensively.

Everyone goes on about how she recruits but she was combing the portal just like Kellie. These freshmen in the NCAA tournament showing exactly why that was a silly move.

AGREED. It’s why we’re in this position. It could’ve been different as early as 2012, but DEFINITELY 2019.

We are now back to the prospect that Danny White has someone of note waiting in the wings. We may lose Nyla and some of the current squad but the new coach may bring upgrades.

Truly disappointed with this decision. Kellie deserved at least one more year. She is a class act and brought in a team of exemplary student athletes. I never worried about how Kellie, her staff or the team would represent my alma mater.

DW has shown himself to be weak and subject to which way the wind blows. He brought in a baseball coach that is an embarrassment to the university. That program is now known for vulgarity, poor sportsmanship and generally being a bunch of punks. I am tremendously concerned that the tradition Pat established of a national contender AND a class program is headed for the ash heap.

Just very sorry for a good person, good coach who has been treated unfairly by someone who isn’t even a member of the UT family.

I will continue to support the Lady Vols through thick and thin. I will hope for a new coach we can be proud of but now have significant doubts about DW’s judgment. A very sad day for UT WBB.
You like losing?

Okay so since we were correct about Cora’s article timing, do you think Cora’s list article has any relevance? Part of me wonders but then I see Shea Ralph and wonder if she is just throwing arrows at a board

I would set your mind at rest on that point, if I can. I don't think we can safely conclude from MMC's article that DW is or "must be" in "scramble mode" or that he does not have someone or some few in mind.

I suspect DW always has a basic list at-hand -- on an ongoing basis and for every program -- as a simple matter of prudence. He likely had particular assistants in mind, too. Finally, it would have been terribly imprudent for DW -- a person known for prudence -- to have broached a discussion of a "path" toward a resolution without first having carefully thought out and prepared for either response from Kellie.

We are not told by MMC's article that it was simple "take it or leave it" offer. A "path" sounds like one in a series of matters to be agreed to.

At any rate, this is not an dumpster fire. This is a huge opportunity for the program to reset. And new coaches — when welcomed and enthusiatically supported — have the future to sell without the baggage of the recent past. They often create a recruiting "bump" for their programs.

And Kellie, of course, is a true LVFL and should always be honored as such. She gave her all for Tennessee. Twice.
100% agree! Of course DW has a list... that's what ADs do. Always ready with next man/woman up!

The Oregon State guy has very Holly-like numbers. The three years before this one he was 42-40. This year he was 4th in his conference.

Nyla and Chastain, I don’t mind losing some of the current roster because I thought that needed to happen either way. Once I hear who the coach is a coming from what school I’ll know if it’s going to be good or not by which players they can bring with them. If they don’t have good enough players I know we won’t be good enough.

That is utterly ridiculous.

"What must be done eventually, should be done immediately."

-- Florida Athletic Director, Jeremy Foley, on his decision to fire head football coach Ron Zook, in 2004. Foley replaced Zook with Urban Meyer, who won 2 National Championships in the ensuing 4 seasons at Florida.

Kellie Harper was never going to consistently win here. She was given a fair chance. There is nothing out of the ordinary about firing a head coach after 5 seasons. Tennessee is not in a tough spot. We have an Athletic Director who will not limit his coaching search to just former Lady Vol players.

Sorry, your feelings are hurt over this, but Kellie Harper wasn't treated unfairly. She can go back to coaching at a mid-major school now ... where she belongs.
I feel like I’ve said this before but my feelings are not hurt. Why do men always attribute hurt feelings and too emotional to women that are disagreeing with them?
I hate that DW did not give Kellie the opportunity to recruit with adequate NIL and coach a team that lightened up a too heavy early season OOC and maybe didn’t have significant injuries every dang year. She deserved another year. DW caved.
We are in a very tough spot. People calling for Kellie to be fired failed to understand how this move looks to recruits and other coaches. It looks like the fan base and weak AD will chew up and spit out a coach that doesn’t win now regardless of lack of NIL and untimely injuries.

You’re afraid we’re gonna throw a bag or two at Dawn 😂😂😂😂😉
