Coach Kellie Harper fired

Or maybe in the "fog of war" she was hearing conjecture or rumors or second hand information that turned out to be false. She jumped the gun though, for sure, sounds like.
As Maria Cornelius is prone to doing. She has a heavy emotional investment in the program. It has influenced her reporting in the past.

I think DW made a terrific hire in Heupel with all the ncaa crap they were going through at the time , he should aim high for this hire , he’s shown an ability to hire good coach’s every where he’s been , I hope for the Lady Vols and their loyal fans this will be his best hire ever , time will tell

If Cardoso misses the miracle three and UT wins the SECT, does CKH stay?

Probably. We probably get a better seed and may have made the S16 as a result of that. It would have bought her another year. This was always where we were going to end up, though. Was always a matter of when with her. The job was too big for her.

Her son is Jaden Ivey on the Detroit Pistons, and he and Tamika Catchings were chatting at the most recent All-Star game about how funny it is that they were both participating in the events. Apparently he and Tamika got to know each other when he was a child and his mother was an assistant for a team Tamika played for.

So there is at least a slight TN connection with her.
Now you are getting me excited!!!!

I'm not sold on that. They still had 11 losses before losing to SC, so the 6 was a fairly high seed. And they easily could've lost in the 1st round if they had won vs. SC. Plenty of teams have lousy conference tournaments and go on runs in the NCAAs and vice versa.

Yeah, I meant the buyout article. We both looked at the timing and Cora of all people to put it out there. It was too much of a coincidence.

I have been going back and forth on the list article. Like you, I wonder if it was again UTAD letting her in on something. Niele and Shea are both kind of wild guesses, but I do wonder if the target is somewhere on there. Might just be me being a conspiracy theorist again though 🙂
Agreed. Other posters are starting to convince me that Ivey might not be impossible...

Minor detail. I edited my prior response. I wrote former when I meant latter but i think the idea still came through.

From what ive learned about Ivey's salary i would not rule her out when it comes $$$...She wants to be an all time great coach and those deserve an investment when it comes to $$ . Not sure how much loyalty versus lifestyle matters to her though.
If we can get Ivey…GET HER!! but I can’t see her leaving😅

Yeah the 6 was incredibly generous and based almost solely on how we played South Carolina the last couple times we faced them.

Today’s reaction to her firing makes me pretty confident a win over SC and a S16 would have bought her another season. Look at how many posters are calling out DW for making this move. They’re not sold that this was the right decision (when it obviously is). If she’d beat SC and made it to the second weekend for the third season in a row, it would have been a tough move to sell.

If you look at the record only 6 programs had a better tournament record over the last three years. But hey can hardly wait to see the much better coach we are going to get!!
She never made it past the Sweet 16, hadn't beaten a top 10 team I years. And Again she was bringing in very little from the portal and recruiting was below supbar.

Fact is that she didn’t recruit worth a nickel before NIL.
Very good point. I have always thought the "NIL excuse" was just a crutch for fans who didn't want to see Kellie Harper fired.

.... I want to add that although I think her firing is the right move and had to be done, it is sad to see. Kellie Jolly was a member of 3 National Championship teams, and the starting point guard for the best team we have ever had in 1997-1998. I just think she is better suited for smaller programs. I will always wish her well.

In typical Maria fashion she has edited the article. Shocking lol. That’s par for the course with her though.

When it was originally published it included a blurb from White that Harper was given the opportunity to move forward with the program if specific changes were made to the staff.

I’m guessing White/Harper did not want that shared so it has now been removed.
I was surprised so many were saying they hadn't seen it. I saw it. I screen captured it. But when I refreshed, it went away. Seems likely someone asked her to remove it.

If she truly wants greatness maybe she does come here. If not Ivey, then why not Hammon or Gottlieb? Saban restored Alabama football and is now a legend, as much as I and most here hate it. The women's basketball program at Tennessee is iconic, the equivalent of Alabama football pre-Saban, or North Carolina men's basketball.

Yeah, I picked up what you were saying. Even hard nosed reporters have to deal with access journalism. You aren’t going to make your sources mad.
To me at least, it looked someone from the AD trying to let the people know so the ones constantly tweeting or emailing or complaining about things would get off their back.

Yep, just her being needlessly creative. That’s why most of us here cackle when someone calls her a journalist. We remember her.
Back in the day it seems that board took up collections to send her on road trips?.....Do they still do that?

Today was the day that Kellie's buyout dropped significantly. A lot of people expected that if there were to be a change, it would happen on or shortly after the 1st. It's been mentioned here.
I know that, you may have misunderstood what I was saying. I was commenting about the speed of Cora's article, but someone else has already opined on that point.
