Coach Kellie Harper fired

I'm not for attacking Kellie. She is a LV legend as a player, but she wasn't a great coach. No, I'm more for attacking the posters who thought that replacing Kellie would be the end of the program. Those that swore up and down Kellie was treated unfairly, and swore they would turn their backs on the program. From what I've seen, Coach Kim is doing a hell of a job. That game last night was exciting, and it reminded me of what it was like watching the LVs play when Pat was coach. It was fun.

So when it comes to those old guard posters who were calling for DW's head, who wanted to disown this program, I say bring all the trauma and tears because this program is doing better than it has in some time.

I mean, who the hell changes their screen name to @FormerLadyVolFan ? That's just insulting. If you don't want to love the Vols and Lady Vols, why stay around? It's like wearing your hissy fit because they replaced Kellie.

Few more posters deserve to be called out for their behavior when the coaching change was made, and you know who you are. This team is doing just fine with Coach Kim at the helm. So support them, because they deserve it.

RIP Pat

Is there an argument for locking this thread? Or is that even something we really do around here. I'm sick of seeing it pop back up.
But you couldn’t help but respond to kick it back up. Rookie

It’s part of the history, can’t erase it so embrace it. Nice reminder of fans views at the time and now under new leadership.

I was actually joking........ I can't see any college going after these two!

I do wish the best for them. I think they are great at the mid-major level. It’s just the kind of ball they know, the kind of kids they can recruit and the games they can win.

Every 4-5 years they could have a really quality team at that level and make a Sweet 16 run like they did at Mo State.

There will be some good mid-major jobs open up and that is where I expect to see them. Don’t think another P4 team takes the bait there. After failing to recruit consistently at both NC State and then her Alma Mater Tennessee it just isn’t a good gamble.

I will say though, Talaysia Cooper was the best gift she could leave the program. What a player, reminds me of Holly leaving Horston for Kellie. Two Lady Vol greats who at least left a beautiful parting gift to the program in the form of an ultra-athletic guard.

Cooper will be one of the best ever at UT. She’s averaging more points than minutes the last 4 games.

If Insell were to retire I think they’d be crazy not to hire her. I’m sure they’ll hire daddy’s sweet boy Matty and tank their program, but the Harper’s would be perfect for that school. With her history in that part of Tennessee and at that level of coaching she could recruit what she needs to be ultra competitive there.

You can forget that happening and if she was so good why didn’t UT keep her?

Because UT is not MTSU. We want Final Fours not an occasional Sweet 16.

An occasional Sweet 16 would be fabulous for MTSU. It is painful for a program like UT.

What is Coach Harper doing? Anybody in touch? Look, she is probably my all time favorite player. But a change was needed. There is nothing wrong with hiring an alum, but limiting yourself to that, well, you are only hurting yourself. Besides she had already been fred from another big time program. What made CPF believe that she would be good here? Also, she had a good payout, has a great family, and still has a future in the sport if she wants it. Although, not st the same level of course.

I think Hart actually hired her. She was just an easy, lazy choice. Made that Sweet 16 run, beloved LVFL, top choice for the blue hairs. Those were her qualifications.

I am pretty sure it was Fulmer..

Yes sorry Hart hired Holly lol. Too similar

Both were lazy choices for one of the most historic women’s basketball programs in history. Didn’t feel like an actual search was done either time.

I was livid when Kim Mulkey flat out said she would have taken the job and nobody called her when Holly was hired.

Great coach, but cocky females just do not work for me. 😂

Why would you believe Kim Mulkey? She loves to see her opponents in disarray.

Holly was CPS's hand picked successor. There was never any question about who would get that job.

Again, Holly won national coach of the year in her debut year. Her first 3 years were actually quite good (and had to overcome some devastating injury issues) with some SEC titles and just missing the final four. Holly killed it in recruiting but she could not sustain it and the team degenerated into a dysfunctional mess in her last 2 seasons.

But stepping in in the aftermath of CPS' tragic illness and keeping the program knocking on the door for several years running deserves a little respect.

Pat was demented already. Anyone going along with that was part of the problem and just being lazy.

You won’t find a bigger Pat Summitt fan, but letting her make the decision at that point was a horrible choice.

Holly deserves respect for her time as a player and assistant. There was almost nothing positive about her time as head coach. She survived for a year or two on Pats players and legacy and then it was rapidly downhill.

Particularly in fan engagement, very quickly games became painful to watch and hearing “I don’t know” 10 times in every presser really turned off the fan base.

Duly noted. So glad you set that matter straight. We can all sleep easier now.

The only reason a mid-major MIGHT take a chance is because they know a major will NOT steal her away!! She is a decent organizer, not a coach!!
