Coach Power Rankings

He's only been coaching a few years and he got two guys like that already... It may not be too difficult for him.

It may not be. But the question, in my mind, remains what he can and can't do without those guys. We don't know how many once in a generation guys there are because they're once in a generation. AND, not all of them will instantly commit to Michigan and play for him. That is my side of it.

I feel really stupid about the Appalachian State thing now that I looked it up (my bad). BUT... I am not convinced that he can win without players like Pat White or Tate Forcier on his roster. He won't always get guys like that. It's those teams without once in a generation athletes and what they accomplish that define coaches.

At Michigan? He should be getting athletes like that on a regular basis. 2nd round picks in the NFL draft at skill positions aren't supposed to be once in a generation players for premier programs.

The thing is, Forcier looks like he is going to be special. Pat White didn't stand out nearly as much to me. I think Rodriguez will definitely be able to get guys like White. Guys like Forcier may be harder to come by.

Emphasis on "should" in this statement. Let me explain that about Pat White. He is once in a generation because he stands as the only QB in history to rush for 4,000 yards. AND he threw for nearly 6,000 yards for his career. That will not happen again in Division I college football.

If Rich Rod doesn't get athletes like that on a regular basis, he won't be at Michigan long. His main rival is going to continue to load up on them every year.

QFT. The reason Carr got fired was he couldn't beat Ohio State once Tressel took over.

Good point. He also needs to beat teams that he should beat on a regular basis (read: loss to Toledo last season).

Michigan was in shambles when Carr was axed. People didn't want to play in Rodriguez's system so many left early even when they definitely shouldn't have. Other people quit/ transferred. Our situation is far better than their's was.

Maybe he officially retired but I'm betting he had to chose between retiring or getting fired.

1) Meyer
2) Carrol
3) Brown
4) Saban
5) Stoops

Tressel is peeking in, maybe if he could win a big game every other year he could replace Stoops. The coaches of BYU, Boise St, Cincy, USF, and Utah round out the top 10.. I'd have to think about what order.

I forgot about Beamer and Paul Johnson.. Not sure where I'd put them...

Switch Brown and Saban and this is my list.

Oh, and Farentz is the Mark Richt of the Big 10.

I honestly put Frank Beamer in the top 5 easily of any coaching list, he has been consistently good for the past 10+ years

Richt has won his conference outright twice and has fielded a team capable of contending for a national title at least once. Ferentz has never done either of those things.

After that it's tough with Brown, Stoops, Tressel, Beamer, Rich Rod, and maybe Chis Peterson or Brian Kelly. I don't get how a lot of people have Stoops top 5 and say Tressel sucks. I've been a huge Tressel critic but their resumes are pretty similar.

And Ferentz is a good coach but if you're gonna pay him NC money, you should expect NCs, not occasional 10 win seasons.

Frank Beamer is vastly underrated as a head coach. He really has done a good job with Virginia Tech, in my opinion.

Richt may have had championship-contending teams at one point in his career at Georgia, but he has no national titles to show for it. End of story on that one.

I think he meant to say the Phillip Fulmer of the Big 10. That would be my educated guess here:)

Again, only if you throw out Fulmer's national championship, a couple of outright conference titles, and about 4 other national title contender quality teams. Then Fulmer=Ferentz.

BUT...what did he do for us lately? Hence why he is no longer here. Moving on.
