Coach Prime

how is they losing to Oregon and USC coming back down to earth? No one with any sense would have expected them to win those 2 games even with Travis Hunter. The fact they have 3 wins and were ranked 3 weeks is a win in and of itself from a team that won 1 game last season. The rest of their schedule is very rough probably one of the roughest in the nation but they still likely end up bowl-eligible and that my friend is an accomplishment no one outside of Colorado locker room would have expected preseason.

This. I think people misinterpreted my Deion post. It's not that he's winning a title this year or maybe ever.

It's that he literally got rid of everyone, put together a team in a few months, and they look competent and capable......which is a damn miracle.

The fact that he gutted and rebuilt a roster and improved the team in a year, will eliminate excuses from coaches who talk about needing time to show improvement.

A coach can't say.....our db's stink (or whatever) when they have been on the job 3 years. Did you recruit? Did you hit the portal? The age of progressively building a program is dying, if not dead.

OK, thanks. I thought I had read somewhere that a head coach just promoted from a coordinator position had to go get a masters pdq, but that was probably a school requirement.
yeah I don't think thats the case for college. most ADs are separate entities from the university itself.

some specific schools might, but I doubt there are too many coaches with a masters in anything.

and to me they are there to coach, not to teach a class for credits, so a masters isn't very helpful.

Prime didn’t know the name of his starting center when asked in a presser. So there’s that. I’m not sold on him yet
I don’t care if our coach has to call them by numbers or “hey you.” If he recruits and coaches like Deon does he will win like Deon does. Our staff doesn’t do either.

Tbh, interested to see what he does once his kids are gone. Does he stay in college, go NFL or not coach?

We’ll see. Come back on here in a few weeks and tell us how much you won betting against him.
Wow some people really take the media bait. Like him or hate him, the media is milking the Deion drama.

Reality is they’ve beaten an overrated TCU team which likely didn’t prepare well for CU (and opening games are always iffy); Nebraska is crap and their QB is a dumpster fire. Finally, they *should* have lost to a lower ranked CSU.

Now the real schedule begins for CU. It’s ridiculous to hype up Deion to this level after 3 games. There’s a good chance they won’t win another game this season, so just relax.

You may have missed this but they didn't beat Nebraska or CSU last year - they won one game the whole season. They got worked by TCU last year - of course they also got worked by Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, and mighty Air Force. So yeah, Deon hasn't done anything at all.

Ok, and it’s a whole different team this year too. As are the others. He clearly cleaned house and his hype brought in a ton more talent. That doesn’t automatically make him a good coach. That means he can bring in more talent.

Winning three crappy games doesn’t warrant “our coaches aren’t as good as Deion” banter. Anyone basing his coaching abilities after 3 games is delusional. We simply don’t know yet, so just pump the brakes a bit before comparing him to any coaches that have been in the league for a while. The dude couldn’t even win in D2 while having better talent than other teams.

Shelomi, his daughter, is a freshman or sophomore B-Ball player at Jackson State. Maybe he goes back and coaches her in basketball.

As much as I dislike listening to Sanders' attitude, he seems to be able to at least be "fair to middlin'" at everything he tries.

Being the "cool coach" can only last so long because, just like all programs, some knuckleheaded kid will do something stupid and Prime will need to learn to be the "uncool coach."

Then again, he may do that pretty well also.

It was a different time. And while I have no delusions but that players from other schools, including UF, certainly routinely cut classes, Sanders is reported to have had years in which he did not go to a single class.
I had a class with Albert Haynesworth. He was in maybe, at most, 20% of the time. Not going for a whole year would be tough at most schools.

It was FSU in the 80s.

hmm...11 P5 schools are 3-0 or 4-0 and unranked.
6 G5 schools plus Marshall at 2-0.

To say bringing in better talent doesn’t make him a good coach is as nonsensical of a statement as can ever be made about football. It makes every bit as much sense as saying, “Just because that chef makes the best-tasting, most unique dishes I have ever eaten doesn’t make him a good chef.”

Ever heard the saying it’s about Jimmies and Joes? Recruiting is the biggest difference between Deon and our staff, and why he would win a NC within three years of getting here.

Hate to break it to you but Deon won’t be at Jackson State again anytime soon. He’ll be at a top-ten program within two years, probably sooner.

Colorados among the worst defenses in the country and playing an explosive offense in Oregon. Oregon was favored by 3 touchdowns for a reason. They'll likely lose to USC as well next week. A guy with the personality like Deion doesn't bother me as they needed some energy, and are actually more interesting than they have been in 20 years. I'm not rooting against them. He's a better fit for the smaller schools than a major program in a similar fashion to Mike Leach.
