Coachery

So it's silly to say TN deserves a proven HC with a track record of success and not an OC who's never been a HC? Sorry for wanting the best here.
They have to willing to accept the job. Don’t sayFreeze or Kiffin not happening. Be realistic, every head coach was an assistant at one time, ie Lincoln Riley. Would you have turned him down? Lowly off. Coornitator.

Well, he told us that we’d have a coach yesterday....

This may go beyond just hiring a HC. Maybe while the info is in lockdown mode they're also finalizing deals with OC and OLine coaches and deciding who stays at UT and who's let go....etc. Patience grasshopper !

Always an explanation....

The Lincoln Riley/Ryan Day examples are utter nonsense. For one, they didn't take over a program they'd never coached at. Second, their programs weren't facing NCAA sanctions. Three, they don't coach in the SEC. Four, they took over programs after big names (Stoops and Meyer respectively) retired--or "retired" in Meyer's case. Five, they don't have to recruit against the likes of UGA, Bama, Florida, A&M, etc., they can simply go in the next county over and pick up a dozen 5 stars, TN cannot do this.

It's easy to say "well look here are some examples of coaches that did great and were coordinators before being a head coach!" But those circumstances are vastly different, as was the shape of their program at the time they took it over compared to TN's current state.

There's a difference as you mentioned between being handed the keys to a fueled up dragster and being handed the keys to a pinto that's burning in the ditch.

There's also a difference in being hand picked by your predecessor to take over a program you helped build. This is why Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day are successful. If you take away those pieces of the equation then they may not be any better than Pruitt.

That's the way coaching changes are SUPPOSED to happen. That's not ever what Tennessee does.

One other item: Some journalists picked up from this thread that our top candidate is not a Sexton client. They’ve twisted that to say DW will not talk to Sexton clients. That is not true. You don’t succeed as an AD and rule out top agents. Too many things are getting twisted.
I simply stated a personal opinion and preference.
Don't know if my anti-Sexton posts were noticed, or others.
That shows the state of UT Press that it would be picked up.
Interesting times, unfortunately.

if anyone is getting "info" from this board to report in the news then we are twisted beyond repair and who our coach is doesnt matter because the end of the world is near.

Sadly, it's difficult to find a comparison to a coach that took over a program in the shape Tennessee is in (or will be in if the NCAA sanctions are what we expect). Saban inherited a much better situation at both LSU and Alabama. Mullen took over a much better situation at Florida. So we can say, "well, those successful coordinators who became head coaches didn't take over a situation as bad as Tennessee's." But you can say that about hires with head coaching experience, as well.

I'll give you a name of someone who took over a worse situation than Tennessee is in and ended up being successful...you have to go way back. Bill Snyder. He was the OC and QB coach at Iowa before taking over as Head Coach at Kansas State in 1989. They were the losingest program in America at the time. In fact, they had gone two straight seasons with ZERO wins. He went 1-10 his first year. By year 3, he had a winning record and by year 5, he won 9 games (with an 11 game regular season) and finished ranked. Things rolled from there. That coordinator hire worked out. Kansas State has never been the same since.

My man, we live in a world where certain mainstream news sources and government investigators took a piece of troll work fanfiction and not only ran it as true news but made it part of a large government investigation. That wasn't a sign of the times to you?

Austin Price saying we offered Gene Chizik a "small fortune." GTFOH Price. I can't recall the last time he was correct about something.
