I think they're done with "up and comer" OCs with no prior HC experience.

I think it depends on who it is. Herman had no HC experience. Mike Norvell the same. Chip Kelly was an unproven OC before becoming a HC.

For that matter, Urban Meyer went straight from a WR coordinator to a HC position.

Your theory isn't panning out.

Uhhh! Houston and Oregon? Memphis and Oregon? Yeah Chip Kelly worked but he practically took over the offense upon the hire, and the succession plan was a CONDITION of the hire and it didn't work with Helfrich...so lightning strike twice type of thing going on here. And Urban Meyer? Bowling Green and Oregon? This is all on the internet! They have a ton of money. They're going to hire someone who's RUN his own show...for at least a SEASON.

I'd be looking at Lincoln Riley if I were Oregon. He's a bit on the young side, but he's a serious up and comer in the coaching world.

I like Riley but Oregon is a tough job to cut your teeth. Though part of the Oregon family and Kelly protege look at Helfrich

True, and add Briles and the pirate the list

Harsin would be a good fit

I'm of the mind that if Oregon is looking at Kiffin, they should be looking at Riley as well. Far less baggage IMO.

I honestly don't think they take a chance on such a young (and unproven as a HC) coordinator, but they (should) know what they are getting into with Kiffin. And it begs the question of whether they would take a chance on a HC that's already screwed up two programs or the relative unknown, but impressive, coordinator. The problem they run into is looking at Coach Bro at Texas Tech and seeing where that's gotten them.

Mullens may have interest but I don't see Knight's support or Schill moving in that (Kiffin) direction

I'm kind of like you, I could see an offer being made to Harsin. Especially in light of what Petersen has done at Washington.

Something to be said for geographical roots also.

Just kidding about Anderson, Baylor is getting Matt Rhule.

And only one recruit in 2017s class.

This has to be a move solely to fix the image of Baylor.
He'll win some games but nothing special. To many will compare him to Briles. Half wanted him back and the other half probably expected a high profile guy.

They could have wanted a high profile guy, but with everything going on at Baylor, they weren't ever going to get one. And the fans can speak til they are blue in the face about comparing him to Briles, but nothing but wasted oxygen.

Baylor didn't have the historical clout to attract a high profile hire. They may have had the money to pay one, but nobody worth their salt was going to step into that job. Especially with less than 60 days before NSD and only one person committed.

I think Rhule is about as good as they were going to get.

I'm not downing the hire or at least I don't mean to make it sound that way. Obviously they wanted a HP guy given Briles history on the field. Fans want nothing more than Ws just look at Tennessee. Baylor hired a great coach at least they didn't panic ala South Carolina.

I agree and think Rhule will do okay. He seems like a good coach from what little I know of him. However, I think Baylor returns to being the Big 12 doormat for the foreseeable future and competing with Kansas in the race to the bottom.

Rhule at the very least beats Kansas yearly.
It's hard to be Kansas bad unless your Charlie Strong. :whistling:

Kansas is kind of a sad program. They are overwhelmingly a basketball school, but so is Kentucky. And if UK can make a bowl...

Whomever Kansas' recruiter is should be fired. Or as a very minimum, given a map to show where Coffeeville and Garden City CC's are. Those two programs produce some good JUCO talent and should be an easy get.
