interesting...I thought Purdue was all in on Fleck...maybe he thinks he can get a better job

Purdue: The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reports, “All indications are that Les Miles has talked with Purdue officials,” and the Colorado Spring Gazette reports Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun is also in the mix. In addition, athletic director Mike Bobinski said recently that he’d like to announce a new coach as close to the end of the regular season as possible, to avoid the following week when more jobs open.*Follow the latest on our*Purdue updates page.

This can't be. Does Butch know about this? I think someone suggested earlier that Butch was leaving on his own and heading to Purdue.

Les Miles very well could be the guy for Purdue job. "Announcement could be coming very soon” reports Doug Griffiths who formerly served as the editor of the Purdue Rivals site. Sources tell FootballScoop that Les has met with Purdue officials at length and Les was very direct with them about needing to step up to the plate and provide additional support for their student athletes if they want to compete for Big Ten championships. We have not heard that a hire in imminent though. We hear other candidates are still being considered as well.

Let's look at the G5 coaches that would be in play for teams this year. Or at least those that have proven themselves to turn programs around and win:

Tom Herman (Houston)
Scott Satterfield (Appy State)
PJ Fleck (West Michigan)
Ken Niumatalolo (Navy)
Bryan Harsin (Boise State)
Rocky Long (San Diego State)
Willie Taggart (South Florida)

Of those, you know there will be a bidding war for Herman. Perhaps PJ Fleck will move into a P5 job as well. I don't think Rocky Long will take on the challenge of rebuilding a program at his age.

But who else moves up? And who does LSU go after? I don't see Ed O being considered, but I could be wrong.

Rocky ain't leavin', he's bound to retire before he leaves. The man is up there with Saban in the age dept isnt he?

Niumatalolo. Don't think he's going anywhere. Good coach running a somewhat antiquated system, he brings more baggage than you think. I always figured the only way he'd leave Navy is if Paul Johnson caught fire at G - Tech and ended up leaving for a better job. If that were to happen, Niumatalolo would simply follow suit...

Harsin. Good luck prying him away. Born and raised in Boise.

And say what you want about Petrino. He is a proven winner though he does carry considerable baggage.

Larry Fedora, also a proven winner. If Texas doesn't get Herman I think they go after Fedora (and probably get him).

Mike "I'M A MAN" Gundy. Similar situation to Harsin, don't see him leaving his home state/alumni. But you never know.

Dana Holgorson. Good coach his name will get thrown around a lot the next few weeks I imagine...

Paul Chryst. Maybe too soon since he just arrived at Wisky. Regardless a lot of ADs have taken notice Im sure. Great candidate even if his name evades mention by the likes of ESPN.

Some underrated candidates that may get some looks from big schools, especially if ish gets crazy...

Matt Rhule-Temple

Brent Venables-Clemson DC...this is the year to take the plunge...his accomplishments are similar to what Narduzzi did at Mich St..tick tock mr Venables :good!:

Jeff Brohm...WKU

Guys who need to wait, but are showing promise.

Chad Morris & Phil Montgomery & Neal Brown - three guys that should *probably* remain off the market this yr to build up their resume but they might get some looks if the coaching market gets crazy. There is the opportunity for A LOT of changes this off-season. Plus you never know when the standing conference legends like Long, Snyder, Solich will decide to step down.

Plus these polished turds will be on the market for the rest to fight over: Kiffin, Sark, Coach O, Strong, Tubbz, Addazio.

Niumatalolo has baggage? Like what?

BYU wanted him last year and he turned them down. I doubt BYU is pursuing coaches with baggage...

Looks like Cincy might be the next open job.

Cincinnati falls to Tulsa 40-37 in overtime. Bearcats finish 4-8 and it likely means the end for UC coach Tommy Tuberville. On the other sideline, Philip Montgomery posts a 9-3 record in his second season with Tulsa. Expect to hear his name for Power 5 jobs in the near future, perhaps this year if there's a favorable chain reaction of openings

Strong officially fired.

"Sources" say LSU will supposedly be keeping Coach O and will be bringing in Kiffin as the offensive coordinator (...hello darkness my old friend...)

Waiting to see what happens with:

Oregon
Cincinnati
Arizona
Arizona St.
UCLA
Ole Miss

Jobs to be filled:

Baylor
Purdue
Houston

Saw a rumor of Fedora to Baylor earlier. UNC would be an interesting opening. Great landing spot for Butch since there are no expectations and no one really even shows up for games.

I'm really surprised Miles isn't already the HC at Purdue.

Kiffin to Houston makes some sense. Think Oregon will be after him as well. Wonder if he'd have any interest in the Nevada opening?

That's really interesting that Purdue wouldn't bank on an established guy like Miles
