Coaching Rankings.

I'm fairly certain swapping rosters is not permitted in college basketball. Which is why it is crucial to recruit the best players. Which is why I take Cal over Boeheim.
I'm trying to remember how many national titles Boeheim won with the Seikaly-Sherm Doulglas-DC-Billy Owens run of talent. DC was there four years. I'm sure he had to win at least one, since he was only the #1 pick in the draft and all. No way Boeheim failed to ring the bell with that kind of talent.

Remind me again what Donovan has done since those two national titles.

What a stupid statement. So do the titles not count???? What has Pat Summit done since winning back to back titles???? I guess she isn't a top 5 coach either. What an idiot.

kidbourbon, Please tell me one year when Calipari has NOT had an NBA lottery pick on his team and still has made a tournament run? im waiting.........

Only after you tell me how your question is relevant.

Was John Wooden winning with a bunch of scrappy white guys? Was Dean Smith? Lute Olsen? Should I keep going?

What an absurd comparison. Pat Summitt has 8 national titles and is the best women's coach of all time. Bobby Knight, Coach K, et al have won more national titles than Donovan.

Wrong. 07-08 they had Derrick Rose, if you wanna count that since technically that year in Memphis history does not exist....
As everyone here but you understood, I was talking about '06-'07. Who's the lottery pick on that team?

If I had to make a short list of coaches I would want?

Izzo, Pitino, Coach K, B. Knight, and Cal.

I know B Knight isnt coaching right now, but, eh.

i assume this list is active coaches only?

otherwise Robert Montgomery Knight should be #1.

Izzo and Coach K are excellent coaches -- no doubt about it. But putting Cal above them is very defensible. Cal has landed the top recruit in the country the last three years, and his recruiting prowess is by no means limited to those three guys.

Again, I approach this question as a "who would I hire today" decision and not as a comparison of resumes. Cal is at the top of my list.

Who would I hire today?. Lets see.Calipari (His teams have made eleven NCAA tournament appearances, including reaching the Sweet Sixteen seven times, the Elite Eight five times, the Final Four two times(both vacated), and the championship game once (Memphis). To think that Cal is better than Coach K(3 NCAA Championships, 11 Final Fours (tied for second most in history), 12 ACC Regular Season Titles, and 12 ACC championships over 30 seasons at Duke.) or Izzo (Izzo has led the Spartans to the 2000 NCAA Division I National Championship, six Final Fours, and six Big Ten Championships in his first 15 years at Michigan State.) is absolutely insane.

One Final Four appearance makes Barnes a Top 5 coach

Well, apparently two (vacated) Final Fours makes you #1, so one just might make you top 5.

Not really, Barnes sucks, but I'm still trying to understand why a fraud like Calipari is the best coach in the country.
