Coaching Search Thread

I guess the good thing about this breaking out is that we'll find out relatively soon whether he has interest or not, assuming he speaks to the media.

I'm surprised Tubby hasn't got more play. I had heard earlier in the year he was looking for warmer weather. I would not mind Tubby at all. Also, Cuonzo Martin is a great coach, he can relate to the inner city kids, he grew up in East St. Louis, which is about as freaking hopeless as it gets.

Tubby will not win a championship here. Many of the guys we are considering won't either, but we don't know that. We know Tubby won't therefore he is a non-starter.

He's one of the best possible candidates for the job.

And again I say: maybe I'm missing something. This is the guy who coached the Nets and actually got worse as they went along, right? I mean, there isn't another "Lawrence Frank" who's a basketball coach is there?

Stephens is clearly a home run hire and would be my personal choice.....He's proven he can get it done with less..Smart I am not sold on yet...I would like to see what he could do with his own recruits...Mooney wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Haha have you seen the roster he was coaching when they were terrible?

Frank neither plays the bongos nor trains ants - should've used those to throw it off. Never, expected Feynman reference would take hold. At all.

Seems like a brilliant direction for a program that has been dealing with the NCAA.

And with the exception of the Fab 5, what has he done with his own players?

Have you been watching basketball? I mean San Diego St is like 30-2. Not saying we should hire the man but he has proven he can win with his own guys

I tip my hat to you for seeing the commonality and making the connection in the first place.

About him bailing on the Celtics: He can take two weeks or what not, get acclamated with the players, talk to the current and future recruits, and get his staff together. Then go back to the Celts.

I don't believe he'd be allowed to talk to any current players or recruits while he was still with the Celtics.

How is that any different from a football coach like Weis staying in the NFL until there season is over while running a college program like he did at ND a few years back?

Just because he didn't do well with the nets(like anybody can) doesn't mean he's a bad coach. He has little control of what players he gets and he has to deal with legit super stars. Different animal in NBA.

If people can't look at the situation with the Nets and understand why Frank's teams got worse, you can't help them.

Im gonna put all this Fisher stuff to bed. Never said we should hire the guy as a matter of fact I don't want UT to hire him. I was just saying that he can win, the Webber thing wasn't his fault, and he made San Diego St. of all places a hoops winner.

You mean the deadbeat organization whose ownership literally killed the team and got progressively worse after Frank left?

Stevens...34 years old...8-3 in the ncaa tourney against teams with far superior talent...That's all that needs to be said. Don't know if he would be interested, but you try like hell to get him.

This is where the checkbook counts. Make it so attractive that he cannot say no.

Major longshot--I doubt as a midwest guy that he has any affinity for the south, sec or UT, but give this guy our absolute best offer/pitch. Put a busty, nude blonde on a Tennessee Walker and send them up to his house (after the tourney)--find his weakness! Except that could get us in hot water again....

I don't really want Smart.

Stevens probably won't leave Butler.

And do we have a legit chance at the Marquette Coach?

Money levels the playing field, no matter how much the coaching prospects may deny it. The Marquette coach only makes about $850,000 per year living and coaching in the frozen tundra.
