If you're going to knock people for speaking different languages, make sure you can type in the one that you're supposedly fluent in.

I personally loved the commercial. It does surprise me that people are getting upset about this commercial. But maybe I loved it because I have a parent that immigrated to the US and it shares the diversity that exists in this country and that many Americans share on a daily basis, which is something that some people who are few generations removed from their ancestors coming over may not understand at all. That's fine, but people don't have to get upset about people being different and speaking a different language (which the US still doesn't have an official language since that is something that the states usually determine).

Regardless, it's just a commercial that is supposed to have good feeling to it and that we live in the United States of America, the greatest damn country in the world.

I wonder what the Native Americans thought of it.

I really liked the commercial.

Wrong. Kia/Hyundai pay Blake "King of the Flops" Griffin, so I have an irrational hatred of them.

This one had Laurence Fishburne reprising his role as Morpheus, so you loved it.

I post in fluent Merican.

Merica!!!

You are most definately the whitest black person I've never met.

And talking to you in the pub is like talking to a totally different person. I feel like I don't even know you anymore.

The Zone Nerd is mostly dead.

No don't end thread.

I actually have a wife who is the first generation of her family to be here.

Our kids are bi-racial and speak three languages.

America is an English speaking country and needs to be respected as such.

The reason her native country is not a 1st world nation (as many 3rd world nations have this issue) is not because they are lazy or stupid. They are the exact opposite. The problem is each region has a specific dialect they speak and only vaguely understand the other regions dialect.

We are now living in a country where "lil mexicos" are popping up and the English language is getting butchered and not even learned.

If we continue to go down this path, the country will begin to segregate itself into smaller pockets and unique dialects.

This will eventually break this country and it will no longer be one strong nation working together.

We are already seeing this happen in certain areas.

This is a slippery slope.

The English language has been butchered for a long time now. All I have to do is go to Appalachia or go down to parts of East Knoxville and hear poorly spoken English and they're not even immigrants nor do they associate with immigrants.

My mother is from the Philippines and thousands of languages are spoken there; however, nearly everyone knows English, Tagalog or both and are able to communicate just fine, so I don't believe the language part is that much of an issue as compared to government corruption.

We can also look to our neighbors to the north where English and French are co-official languages. They don't seem to have any problems. Spain, Belgium, France (although French is the official language), Italy, and many other developed countries have multiple languages and that isn't part of the problem.

Should everyone learn English? Yes, especially if they want to be successful here, but I don't really see the slippery slope. I spend a lot of time with immigrants in the US and ALL are trying to learn English or know how to speak English. There's not really a problem with people not trying to learn. Sure they're afraid. The pockets you're talking about are natural. They've always existed in the US and all over the world. People want to be with people who are similar to them. When I lived in Spain and in France, I found many immigrant neighborhoods. Guess what? There are American neighborhoods as well where there are only Americans and you can hear English everywhere.

Anyway, I'm completely content with the states choosing what the official language of said state should be.

Canada - Bad example

Everyone hates French-Canadians, even French-Canadians.

Haha. Touché. I can't say I really have anything good to say about French-Canadians; however, they may be hated, but it hasn't really hurt Canada either. While they have French Canadians, we get to handle Justin Bieber for them.

Pet peeve- When I go for fast food and the people in the kitchen don't seem to understand English and screw up my order. Sure, it's a trivial thing, once or twice, but over and over again, it gets bothersome. Businesses like that need to either a.) make sure their employees have a working knowledge of the English language, or b.) provide a translator. Language barrier can lead to poor customer experience.

If Obama deports him, his(Obama's) popularity will skyrocket among people who can actually vote. I wonder if the Dems know that?

I can agree with that; however, I have had American's screw up my orders just as much.
