Trump using his personal funds to pay off SD is completely legal and ok. I would assume that Cohen would have had access to Trump's account at Trump's behest to have made the transaction.

All still remains to be seen. It was a shell game and they may have covered their tracks well enough to get away with it. They've been doing this kind of stuff forever and have many in place to cover for them. It's the typical Clinton playbook.
