Colin Kaepernick sits during national anthem

I often use illegal immigrant and I am for the right to bear arms. Excuse me for using a writing shortcut on the interwebs. WTF. JFC.

There's a large difference between railing against immigrants and railing against illegal immigrants. If it's a short cut it's a foolish one, as it completely changes the argument. The media has done this since day one, saying Trump is against immigrants when he is clearly talking about illegal immigrants.

I love the fact that Kaepernick is talking about oppression of people and his freedom of expression, while at the same time wearing a Fidel Castro t shirt. What a f'ing moron.

Bro, literally everybody agrees illegal immigration needs reform....he's not simply talking about reform, he's rallying people by saying "send everybody back because they are rapists, criminals, etc." and also they have ruined our economy, or been a tax burden (both completely unproven complaints), etc.

Minority activists tend to complain about the law and over-enforcement. White activists tend to complain about the law and lack of enforcement. Two "whiney" groups talking about two sides of the same coin.

He said Mexico was emptying their jails sending rapists and criminals here and this is true. They have decided its better to let them cross the border than house them for 20 years. The press reported, Trump thinks all Mexican are rapists and criminals. Now do you really believe anyone, Trump or anyone else, thinks all Mexicans are rapists and criminals? Really?

Anyone who is not against illegal activities should not be allowed to vote. If you don't agree with it change the law, if you don't have the votes to change the law just obey the law.

Now now, I think Fidel gave people the freedom to choose how they were executed. He was a man of fairness.

This is silly.

Just obey the fugitive slave act

Just obey the Japanese internment order

Just obey anti-discrimination laws

Just obey gun laws

Lose your right to vote if you disagree with the law. No opposing viewpoints allowed here...this is 'murica.

Any sentence that includes 'the law' three times and doesn't include the word 'disobey' can kma

Has anybody watched the full 6-minute CK interview where he clarifies his position?

You may not agree with his actions and you may not even agree with his position, but I don't think anybody can disagree with what he is saying are the reasons he has adopted this position. He made very good points.

I don't disagree at all with his rights to do what he did, it's America. I do stil say that the timing is the problem for me. He's never had an issue with it through college, or while he was the clear cut super star qb. However, everybody has been reporting he's about to lose his job, and now he has a problem? So if he gets cut later, he'll cry it was because he stood up for minority's and his beliefs. Jmo

I don't agree with him but a whole hell
of a lot has happened in the last 12 months.

So, it's the flags fault he's oppressed? He's as bad as Sharpton, both I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

Screw him, he probably couldn't tell you how many stars is on the flag.

Well, to be fair, a lot has happened between last season and this season. He's talking about cops shooting people and going on paid leave. He's talking about vets fighting for freedom, truth, justice, and dying in vain because our government doesn't necessarily espouse those ideals. Etc.

I'm not so sure he was very aware of the state of things, being raised by white people and then living in Reno. I didn't start realizing something was actually wrong until I was 25 or 26. I don't blame him for not knowing.

I get there's been things, but there's also been ignorance. Like the riots over a black cop killing a black criminal, and white people being blamed (and trump got blamed also). Mr quarter and others wants this stuff to stop. What do we do? If a black man tries to rape my wife, should I allow it because he's black? If he tries to rob me, should I allow it because he's black? Should I cash my check each week and give most of it to black people like a certain poster suggested would end violence against whites and cops by blacks? It's no different with police. If they go to a crime scene and the perp is black, turn their heads? I've listened, and read demands by those like him, and BLM, it's frigging ridiculous. They want to do whatever with no consequences. There have been a couple of unjustified shootings, but even more against whites. Should I run to Walmart and burn it down? Should Aaron Rodgers protest next weekend over the white deaf guy trying to do sign language who was shot by a black cop in NC? Hate to get into that rant, but this guy is full of it. He's about to get benched, probably cut later, and doing nothing but crying for attention.

I agree that cops involved in a questionable shooting should not be paid. This guy lived the college life, and pro for several years now. I think he's seen a lot, and just doubt his intention. We'll see how he reacts when it's official that he's not the starter, or gets cut. If he cries it's because he took a stand, then that was his plan imo.

I heard enough before I puked. What were is good points?

Did he bring up black on black crime being the biggest violent problem for the black community?

Did he bring up the lack of responsibility and accountability among the black community?

None of this is relevant to this thread. Let's stick to the things CK is actually saying.

Why should a cop not be paid? Don't we operate under the presumption of innocence? At this stage all shootings of minorities have become "questionable".

For the sake of the argument, let's assume that he has a valid reason (ethical/moral/civic duty; no one questions his constitutional right to do so) to protest.

Is sitting down during the national anthem of a preseason NFL game the best, or at the least, an efficient way to affect the desired change?

It's a good question. Somebody mentioned him putting his money where his mouth is, but I am willing to bet the ACLU would be willing to pay $millions for this kind of buzz.

But he doesn't....he's the antithesis of an "oppressed" colored American..

It doesn't matter if he is oppressed or not. He said he has had it good. He is "standing up for others". Why does his standing in society de-legitimize his position? Does Trump's success de-legitimize his complaints?

Trump is speaking without ****ting on the history of this country...

Is Kaepernick not intelligent enough to do so?

His anger over police shootings is being directed at the wrong symbol, and the entire stunt just made him look ignorant.

Money, effort, something. It would seem to imply that either he's not that intelligent (thinking that this was going to be an effective protest) or he has alternative motives.
