College Baseball - Transfer Portal Tracker

It’s interesting, because being a starting pitcher is probably not where teams would project his skill set best if I had to make a guess. He’s a solid catcher with an elite bat. That is RARE for a catcher.

Just look at Kevin Parada from GT. He’s seen as a Top 5-6 pick and most mocks have mentioned his average defense, but project it can be improved. He’s regarded so highly because it’s not often you get someone behind the plate with a bat like Parada or Skenes. My guess is if he sticks with catcher, he’ll be a Top 10 pick next year.

That was always my impression as well.

FWIW…Coach Kaz thinks he projects as RHP in the ‘23 draft. And so ffar, he’s only pitched for Collegiate USA Team. That being said, he calls a great game behind the plate and can hit for average and power. I’d look at it as a BOGO opportunity if I’m a MLB team. Also, you’re not going to find a higher character young man out there.

Fingers crossed…

UT Falcon, my son and our family went on a baseball recruiting visit to the AF Academy some years ago and we couldn't have came away any more impressed than we were of Coach Kaz and the AFA. He seemed to be the salt of the Earth type of guy that if he told you something you could take it to the bank. Not a slimy "car salesman" type that are out there in droves when going through the recruiting process.

The question becomes how we'd convince him to catch here with our numbers at the position? Don't see him coming for that. Pitching also seems improbable unless he's just hell bent on working with Anderson. One thing in our favor is that we have a good number of arms so there's no chance we'd over work him and put his future in jeopardy. No matter how you look at it, the fit doesn't seem to be there for Skenes.

Reggie Crawford, 1B/LHP from UConn, is apparently on campus. He had good numbers in 2019 and 2020, but sat out last year with TJ.

Not really sure what this means. No idea if he’s even in the portal. He’s also draft eligible and some mocks have him going pretty high.
I think he's projected to go 3rd round right now. If we could somehow convince him to come here and improve his stock to a potential first round pick that would be pretty crazy.

Kaz is the real deal…incredible man, coach, and patriot. Not trying to hijack the thread, but here’s an interview during their 2 game midweek series with Texas this past April (Skenes went 4/9 with 4 runs, 5 RBI and 2 HRs):

Probably, but not necessarily. If I were CTV or Coach Anderson, I would say to him, "Look, we have three outstanding starters and a fourth that's pretty good, for a total of 4 starting spots. And we could always use a power arm in long relief. If you come here and compete, you might win a weekend starting spot if you're good enough or the fourth starting spot, or a spot as a long reliever. Even if you don't win a weeked starting spot, you're just an injury away from getting your chance. And injuries do happen. Either way, you will be a fundamentally sounder pitcher for the experience of being coached by Anderson. If you like intense competition and the best pitching coach in the business, this place is for you. And if you wanna hit in the DH spot or catch, that'd be cool, too." That's a pretty good pitch, maybe not good enough, but who knows?

Whoa, that'd be a hell of an addition.

He was believed to be a first round guy before his injury this season.

Guess THIS is why I keep coming to this thread. Huge addition if he's healthy and we can get him. Whew. TV doin' work.
