Not at all. Look at Connecticut. They could do no wrong. I think it’s a very good conference beating up on each other.
Idk, the teams doing well like Alabama & Tennessee also had some good OOC showings, many of the other teams in league play either beat nobody OOC or lost the games they did play against good teams.

I would say maybe, but I’m not absolutely sure. I think the next 3-4 weeks will give us better info in which to make a decision.
Can you clarify, please? Maybe, what? I don’t think there’s any question about who the best conference is, as of today, which is really all we can discuss, now.

I just have a feeling. I think the best defenses in college basketball appear to make us look uglier than we are as a conference. I think our top 3 are better than their top 3. Maybe our lower echelon is worse, and probably so. But, I just don’t buy they’re a better conference, at least yet.

Does the SEC just suck this year?

IMO, yes. Alabama is clearly the cream of the crop. You then have Tennessee a notch below. And after that it’s literally anyone’s game. A bunch of mediocre teams. Not a lot of opportunities to pad our resume so we need to beat Kentucky, Alabama, and Auburn in February. And Texas.

Yeah, I think the middle and bottom of the conference is significantly better than the SEC, and that’s what separates them, for me. They have 10 teams, and all 10 are still in the hunt for an NCAAT berth if they can win some conference games. They aren’t going to all make it, but 8 of them seems very likely. Not sure the SEC can stand up to that. The Big 12 has 6 teams in the NET top-25. The SEC has 3 teams, though granted, Tennessee is #2 and Bama is #3. All 10 Big 12 teams are in the top-75. The 10th SEC team is Vandy at #92. South Carolina is #281.

I saw some info floating around on Twitter (can't remember where) about this potentially being one of the weakest fields in general for all of College Basketball.

And that feels true to me, anyway.

No clear cut dominant teams. Many blue bloods having down years.

And on our conversation about whether the SEC is any good. If the SEC truly is the 2nd best conference as you say @cncchris33, that may very well be true. But watching the conference play, it just doesn't feel like it should be true. But again, maybe it is and is just an example of how weird of year it is in college basketball.

I saw the same thread. It was from Will Warren (who is great!) and here is the thread. Very interesting read, and it is shaping up to be an unpredictable March with possibly a lot of upsets in the Big Dance.

Idk if this is what you saw but Will Warren had a recent article about this…

Just as a point of clarification, I said the SEC is, at best, the second best conference. I think that is the ceiling unless the Big 12 just caves. ACC appears to be down, Big 10 appears to be down, PAC-12 is down. Big East is pretty decent.

I agree, CBB is down. Should make for an awesome NCAAT!

Lots of SEC teams play great defense. But, the reffing is also subpar and not consistent. A&M (who leads the nation in FT attempted and made per game) had 7 ft’s (4 when FL was fouling at the end of the game) vs 21 for Florida, and they were playing in College Station.

Also, Castleton for FL has a very punchable face.

I don’t know if it’s so much a weak field for the NCAAT. There just aren’t the handful that were allowed to always have all of the top recruits as in the past. Hopefully the days of Duke, UNC, KU, UK, UConn, Zona, Nova, Cuse, and even IU, UM, MSU, tOSU, Zaga, and UCLA being escorted into the FFs by TV and the NCAA. There are a hundred or more teams that should be getting an equal opportunity. No way half or more of the FF should be the same teams year in and year out. Especially the cheating blue bloods.

Lol, nope we know what will happen. We make our first Final Four but Barnes gets crapped on because he made it "during the weakest NCAAT EVER!"
Wrong…he’ll make Elite 8 and lose to like a 10 seed to get to the Final Four and they’ll say how much better Pearl is and how a F4 was gift wrapped and he sucks.

Nothing more annoying than certain posters worshipping the guy that got us in the NCAA mess to begin with.

If not for them, the basketball forum would be the perfect place for discussions.
