College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

That's a bad enough performance that we would have trouble winning if we did that.

Lol for 1 we weren’t talking about Tennessee.

Tennessee has had those games……..but they were vs MUCH better opponents. Colorado, USC and KY.

Two of them beat Tennessee. One of them didn’t………but all three are way better than South Bama.

Tennessee shot in the twenty’s vs Colorado and still had chances. Tennessee shot 16% from 3 vs KY and had every opportunity near the end to tie the game. Tennessee shot 37% and 16% from 3 and still managed a win vs USC.

Yes Tennessee could easily beat a terrible team if they have a bad night shooting………as well as Bama can.

And YES Bama “could” lose a game vs a good team if they shoot the ball poorly……..why is that so hard to admit?

I like our chances against bama if we can turn them over 12+ times and not have one our our Awful Shooting Nights ™️
Haha…..love the trademark. I was thinking about this last night. I believe we need to have a 15-17 turnovers caused and only have a max of 10-11 turnovers ourselves. Regardless, I think we need to have a plus 5 on turnover differential. I also think we have to be even or a little better on the boards, and as usual, the wildcard is always shooting percentage.

You obviously didn’t get the memo.

They turn the ball over 15 times anyway.

Even if Bama has a bad night shooting just 33% and can’t hit a 3……….they will still win. Simply because they will shoot the ball 120 times scoring 79 points.

No doubt Bama’s defense will hold Tennessee to probably 20 points.

They can’t be beat.

Alabama got beat soundly by UConn and the only thing they seemed to do significantly worse was turn the ball over (21tos) and UConn limited their made 3s (6-16).

This is a good point.

UConn severely limited the number to 3’s Bama was able to take.

Bama takes about 30 per game…….UConn held them to just 16.

Although they hit at a slightly higher %…….they were still down almost 14, 3 attempts.

Bama is a really good team. However they definitely aren’t unbeatable. Both teams that beat them are good……..however neither are “elite” this year (or now……maybe they will improve).

I'd come back with a list of the SEC games where Alabama allowed more than 70 and still won, but they haven't yet allowed more than 70 in SEC play.

They themselves scored less than 70 twice. Neither had a slower than usual tempo, with them beating USA despite poor shooting and losing to UConn despite shooting fine (21 turnovers will do that).

So I'm not counting on their tempo being a weakness, because thus far it has done nothing to hurt their defense. They're not going to lose a game because they're playing too fast, they're going to lose because they're outplayed.

Purdue keeps escaping.

I know winning close games is a trademark of a good team; however they have had 5 wins of 5 points or less vs teams that really aren’t that good.

Our 3 point defense being the best in the country should mean we are a match up problem for Alabama. Playing at home should help our offense. We should also be playing better together by then. When you think about it, because of the combined missed games by JJJ/Santi we've not had all our pieces in place for that many games this year.

Sampson just got a terrible T after his team committed three fouls on a play but finally got called for the last one. Those two free points could be crucial in what is now a tight game.

For sure. One good thing for us is that bama doesn’t pressure the ball as much as they try to force you to shoot over their length. We gotta play smart, not let them speed us up too much, and pressure the hell out of them on the perimeter. Win the turnover battle by 5ish and beat them by 8+ in points off turnovers and there’s no reason we can’t win by a few possessions.

If Temple could just score a couple more times. They were up 55-48 and haven't scored in almost 5 minutes. They are still ahead by 3.

Temple's center just stood under their own basket pivoting with the ball, even though a guard was standing there calling for it. The Houston center just stole it and then the Temple center fouled him and they tied it one the 3 point play. Incredibly stupid play when you have a shot to beat #1.

Down 1, Houston shot a 30-footer with 42 seconds left. Temple burned the whole clock, missed the rim. That same center got the rebound and could have easily made the shot. Instead he threw the ball out beyond the 3 point line with 8 seconds to go. The buzzer somehow didn't sound for the shot clock. So they are in replay now.
