Colts vs Jets

Then either you are under 22 years of age or became a Vol fan late in life.

or

option c) he just didn't start watching the NFL until later on

or

option d) he's someone who honestly believes one doesn't have to like or have forced ties to a team at one level league based on an affiliation to a team at another level...and there's no rule that you have to

why does every NFL discussion on this board seemingly have to devolve to this; both sides being the culprits here

(oh also, nice assumption that clearly he didn't start watching a team till after they played in a super bowl; no reason it could be otherwise :rolling eyes: )

For you die-hard vol fans, Erik Ainge just advanced to the second round.

Forgot about that. That means the Jets have more Vols on the roster than the Colts. Thus, if you root against the Jets, you're REALLY not a true fan.

amazing how people that claim to not care about Peyton are usually the first to show up once he loses.

and he was 0-3 Bill. At least get your stats right

I am with bill on this one, I just think he is given entirely too much love.

first off, you're welcome emain

Secondly, what has Peyton meant to our program? 4 losses to Florida? The 1998 Orange Bowl? The embarrassing loss to Memphis in 96? There is nothing worse than people that tell me I'm supposed to root for Peyton just because he's Peyton. He's not our son. Give me Al Wilson, Or Dale Carter. Or how about Jason Witten, the greatest tight end in the game, who's my age and grew up beating us up in high school? Or Aubrayo Franklin? He was born in my hometown. Or Gerald Sensabaugh, growing up one town over? Do you realize how many Vols are in the NFL?

Bill, I noticed you are an A's fan and a Redskin fan. Im starting to see where all this hatred towards a perennial winner is coming from. But hey, the A's are only $150 mill away from a World Series and the Redskins are a lock for the playoffs next year with Rex Grossman now running the show. So cheer up.

that's great but it's a little ridiculous how the Manning haters always jump in immediately following a Colts loss

sssshhhhh

he's not liked here :p

I didn't even realize he was still a Jet. Where is that walt guy to tell me how Ainge was the savior of the Jets? Sanchise has them in the playoffs two years running.

Alright I'm just gonna put it all out there. I love Peyton Manning. When he rejoices, I rejoice. When he hurts, I hurt. As someone who cried everytime we lost to Spurrier when he was there and when that wicked group at espn heisted the trophy from him, it is hard for me to understand how Vol fans can dislike him so much. He was in Tennessee 3 freaking years before the Titans. Adams and company could have broke the bank to pick him if they ahd wanted. I desperately wanted them to at the time.

Finally, I am not saying you can't root against the Colts and not be a true Vol fan. What I am saying is that if you watched Peyton Manning play at Tennessee for four years and care more about winning than any Vol I have ever seen --except maybe Al Wilson-- I do not see how you could be happy to see him be upset or have a "pouty face" now. As someone who loves Peyton Manning, I take it personally when a fellow Vol fan feels this way. Maybe I am irrational in this, but Peyton was Tennessee football as I was coming of age. I desperately wish he could go down as the greatest quarterback of all time. With each passing year, it looks less and less likely.

I miss him telling me how much better Ainge is than Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez and that only a fool would think otherwise.

I guess there are two types of fans: Vol fans who follow the NFL on the side, but who eat sleep and drink Tennessee football and NFL fans who like to root for the Vols but who put them a distant second or worse in the old sports priority list. I am definitely in the first group!

most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Tennessee football is without question my favorite sport. I don't have to cheer for their basketball to be a diehard fan in everything else. My beefs with the basketball program are well documented on this board. How am I supposed to be a diehard Vols fan and then base my decision on who to root for in an NFL game based on Tennessee players? I'm supposed to cheer for Peyton but against Shaun Ellis? I'm a 'Skins fan, am I supposed to lay down those loyalties when they play the Cowboys, just so I can cheer Jason Witten?

my bad, 0-3. I do care about Peyton. The Peyton slurpers are so obnoxious trying to tell me I have to root for him over other players, especially players that have much more significance that I relish watching him lose. He whines all the time and his fans that follow the Colts and name their kid after him have my sympathy.

Really? He its already in the discussion as one of the best ever. Dude revolutionized the QB position. He is a great player, but I think he was given too much credit at UT, and I have grown up hating the Colts. I get the same satisfaction, maybe even more, from watching Tom Brady lose. It is the nature of the beast

I don't believe I've ever said anyone had to cheer for the Colts (like Titans fans do all the time) but to just jump in and call him a pouter after he just lost a playoff game in about the most difficult way possible is ridiculous IMO. But do whatever makes you happy I guess

because for every day he doesn't lose, I have to hear blabber and knob slobbing over Peyton and how's he's the greatest thing on earth and I'm a fool and not a fan because I don't cheer for him. It's my time for revenge and I take it. I enjoy seeing others get riled at my enjoyment. Sue me PJ

What I'm supposed to do if an ODU alum gets drafted and faces Peyton?

This is how I feel.

Vols fans can root for or against anybody they want.
