Coming after Vitello

Now, I will get flamed for this but got to say this.......if Tony was going to stay at Tenn, why don't you just let your agent finalize the deal and allow UT to make the announcement this week during the pre-Omaha glow? They could have easily already agreed to the particulars behind the scene. Its not like Tony knew all along that he was getting to Omaha this season, and was holding off signing a new contract to get the very best money. The longer the LSU job stays open, and since Mike Bianco hasn't accepted the job (which to me implies he isn't being offered), makes me more concerned that TV is absolutely considering the LSU job......if one assumes that LSU is indeed offering behind the scenes. And while I'll be sickened if Tony takes that RedStick job, I honestly can't and wont blame him. Its a baseball historic powerhouse, with a solid team in place, and it would mean that LSU is offering really big money and a figure that Tenn just cannot match. Remember, baseball is not producing enough income to pay for itself (or so I'm told), and this has been a super expensive year for UT with Covid and the Pruitt disaster. So I think we need to be at least prepare ourselves for that possibility. I mean, if they offer bigger money, for what most college baseball coaches consider a dream job, then we need to be realistic.

Now if that happens, I do hope we can recruit someone who can keep the momentum going. But it would be hard. TV is a unique personality that relates to kids on a level that makes TN a strong choice for a recruit.

And one can hear the tide turning in the secondary media surrounding LSU toward TV after being critical toward him last week........they realize that Corbin likely isn't coming, and Bianco doesn't excite the fanbase, and Godwin is a safe but not flashy choice to them.......it comes down to who else but Tony V? Give us a name that Scott Woodward would pick - remember he lives for eye-opening hires. Just look at his track record. Chis Petersen, Jimbo Fisher, etc

Right now he's negotiating as a coach that took his team to Omaha.

Ten days from now he could be negotiating as the coach that just won the College World Series.

I get your point that there is more upside to waiting it out now, in that he won't get a lesser offer from UT even if he goes 2 and Q in Omaha. I'm not concerned as much at TV's timing, more at LSU's yet to confirm a coach.

And I'll add this: The LSU job may be too much money to turn down, but I predict he won't "fit in" with the big money people and baseball fanbase there as well as he fits in Knoxville. Bigger demands, probably unrealistic expectations, less patience, no real chance to stamp his name on the program as a trail-blazer/reviver like he can here. He very well could take the job in BR and live to regret it....who knows. I really hope he stays for sure.

UT can and will match any offer that any other school makes...that’s it. Pruitt, himself, doesn’t have a cost. UT has money. If Tony V leaves, it’s because he wanted to leave.

Yeah uhhh... probably game planning for VA.
They'll be plenty of time to sign papers in a week or so. ;)

Just because a deal hasn't been announced yet, doesn't mean it's a red flag that he is leaving. We're in Omaha right now. Even good news can be incredibly distracting. Now isn't the time to announce a deal. People are just trying to find signs that TV is leaving because they're too battered to accept he wants to stay. This isn't football. Not everything is destined to go up in flames.

Yep, he has to play the game inside the game. Coach TV even said this morning “IF I’m here”concerning the future at Tennessee.

KR posting on tigerdroppings hinting around LSU is looking at someone in Omaha.

They are probably referring to what Kendall posted today on Twitter:

LSU's Nolan Cain (recruiting coordinator) is joining Coach Schloss and the Aggies. That's a blow to LSU because they were hoping to retain him.

I wouldn't read much into tigerdroppings interpretation of his post. They will work themselves into a lather over every post re: their coaching search. They are clinging to tea leaves, in my opinion.

Kendall is actually posting on their board. In a thread discussing the recruiting coordinator.

Tony is intelligent and so of course he has thought of those things. But any coach that has his confidence will certainly believe he can take that on. Im actually not so sure we would match an LSU offer, but that aside, I'm just saying there could be a lure to that kind of program. Of course we all hope he prefers to build his own program here. But its not decided at this time yet, I dont believe.

I think LSU is retaining some of their current staff, and if so, TV wouldn’t have complete control over the program.

What you are ignoring is that the fan base has already said TV is a one year wonder and not worthy of the position. How can an AD walk him out at a press conference if that is their perception?
