Coming after Vitello

IMO, Franks last gig is at Tennessee…….he’ll retire before going somewhere else.

Under ZERO circumstances would they look at Frank, no insult to him......they will absolutely go for the fences (see ADWoodward history of hires) in this hire. The LSU fanbase would go nuts if they hire someone without a CWS ring. He is certainly a proven head coach to most, thanks to his extensive time at Okla St., but he won no NCAA championships and just isn't glitzy enough for that base.
So as I said yesterday, TV is right in the middle of the LSU target zone right now.....The Ariz or Vandy coach aren't leaving their programs I don't believe. So watch this one. Plus, Woodward can very easily sell the idea of TV to a doubting group of Tiger elitists with the shiny 2 national COY awards just won. My guess is that Bianco and Godwin are back-up options for Woodward.
Now, Brian O'Connor ticks most of the boxes (perennial NCAA playoff appearances, won it all in 2015, and young enough - 50yo) to be a long term hire. But his star faded a bit since 2017 onward when his Virginia record began to fade - this season's late charge notwithstanding. So I don't know if he is flashy enough, but he is a very well thought of coach as I understand. Plus O'Connor certainly knows his way around Omaha - he was BORN there! (no kidding). We will see. PS. I thought TV wouldn't discuss job issues until after the CWS? Oh well, we don't know what happens behind the scenes.

Tigershat err tigerdroppings. Hahaha

Woodward now setting sights on corbin, vitello, and johnson who are all coaching in cws.
Kendall rogers hints there is one coach in the cws that guilbeau forgot to mention. I Assume he is referring to oconnor.

Corbin for $5 Million year 7 yr guarantee:rolleyes::)

I think Vitello is his target for no reason other than we can’t have nice things

Not to mention Vitello openly admitted to talking to LSU boosters the same day that story came out about Woodward’s targets
This time things will be different. Tony is playing the inside game for leverage.
Win it all and he could be the highest paid in the conference. 2 and q, third highest in the conference.
He's going to have a great run in Knoxville for several years.

All things considered, especially given Woodward's MO of shock hires, I think he has his sights set on Corbin. Wouldn't that shake up the league if he landed Corbin?

If LSU pulls the miracle that a Corbin hire would be, it would open the door for the new powerhouse in the state of Tennessee

It would be interesting to see how a post-Corbin era at Vandy goes. Do they sink back to the gutter or is what he built sustainable for the next guy?

Orgeron wasn't a HC at the time of his hire, though he had been a HC, and in the SEC, no less. Will Wade was the HC at VCU when he was hired at LSU.

Neither one were high on anyone’s list is my point, I highly doubt anyone was going to hire Orgeron as HC outside of a directional school. Will Wade was a solid hire but Shaka Smart had built that program quit acting like they can get whoever they want

My guess is that LSU goes hard after Corbin, O’Connor, and Bianco in that order. I hope they view TV as too much of a “wild horse that can’t be tamed”. Plus, I think TV loves the idea of building an empire at UT. the UT Admin obviously sees the fervor over TV and UT baseball so they will invest in the facilities, TV, and his Assistants or they will need to start packing. The long suffering UT fans deserve TV and a winning baseball program and will support them in spades.

LOL...I'm not "acting" like anything, pal. Just noting that your response didn't entirely fit the narrative of the post you responded to.

Of the three sports though, baseball is probably the one that LSU commands the right amount of clout to go get "their guy". It may not result in their first choice in the end, but LSU is college baseball royalty. I don't think that is really debatable.

Just because Woodward is in Omaha to go shopping, it doesn't mean he's targeting any of - or only - the coaches who's teams are in the tournament. Alot of other coaches will be there. Maybe VanHorn.

Where did Tony say that? I don’t think he would admit to that right before the world series.

In a radio interview he said an LSU donor asked if this was a Super Regional or WWE match or something along those lines. Never said the donor specifically said it to him. LSU fans have taken the statement and built it up to say that he met with a booster.

Plus, their fan base had a Volnation-Schiano type revolt. Don’t think it’s fair to Casey but it is what it is….
I think you are giving their fan base too much credit -- they didn't squawk. I am pretty sure it was behind the scenes power-brokers who felt it would be a bad look, given recent revelations of LSU enabling sexual harassment, and more, for years.

Corbin already Turned Down LSU once and they don’t have the money to get Corbs. Vanderbilt will dip into the big fund to match anything LSU offers. Plus Maggie loves Nashville and Baton Rouge is a hot nothing.

I don’t think he leaves and no doubt Vandy will match any offer but to say they don’t have the money is the height of the Vandy obnoxiousness we’re all accustomed to. LSU could likely make him the highest paid coach in the country by simply forgoing the profit baseball makes. If they choose to go into the red like every other program in the country then there’s no doubt they could make him the highest paid. If I’m Woodward and he’s really my guy and I’m prepared to spend $3M then I make an all-in offer right off the bat. Make Vandy sweat and pony up if they’re serious about keeping him. Woodward has to know though he’s not leaving the biggest advantage in college baseball simply for the sake of playing in front of bigger crowds.
