Completely agree. Aside from dealing with Corbin at Vandy, which is significant, Tennessee is actually a pretty talent rich state. We know we have our work cut out from a facilities standpoint, but our admin is committed to making it happen. Our fanbase is THE MOST LOYAL in the country. Period. What’s the big discrepancy between winning big at Tennessee vs LSU? The fact LSU has done it before? We can too. Consistently. My take is that it's not actually that much easier to win titles at LSU than Tennessee.
He left us for Cal, not Missouri, but regardless he knew it was just a matter of time. He didn't want to be at UT and UT didn't really want him to be at UT either. You're right. I guess my brain was making the weird leap of fan pressure on him to leave essentially meaning he was fired, but no he did leave for Missouri of his own accord even if it was a mutual parting of ways.
Basilio says LSU AD is in Omaha. Says he’s heard he wants to get a look at UVA coach Brian O’Connor. Has ties with Mainieri. He says he’s heard there’s no smoke around LSU and TV based off of people he’s talked to.

If we didn’t step up, there would have been no quandary…but we did. Flash forward to this opportunity to likewise step up. Would be two good wins vs that defeatist narrative.right. but i can't remember the last time a coach openly admitted to basically being financially trapped for the reason he's sticking around

Yes. It’s completely understandable! It’s a symptom of PTCD - Post Traumatic Cuonzo Disorder.Embarrassing. You are correct. Apparently the supreme mediocre nature of Counzo Martin's career has me with complete brain lapses on where he went and when it was. He pretty much has the same average team everywhere he goes, so it all kind of gels together in my head.
That's my line of thought, as well. Short-term (next 6 years), LSU is probably a more attractive job by some margin.Completely agree. Plus the facilities are already in place.Yes without a doubt. You have no in state competition for recruits at LSU. LA Tech is a decent program and was a national seed this year but they aren’t going to get kids LSU wants. Here you have to compete with Vandy who has been the premier program in the sport for the last decade.

Long-term (beyond 6 years), and assuming Vitello continues his winning ways at Tennessee in the short-term, can we not build the front end of a similar dynasty? We can build and improve facilities. We are getting fan support and finances pumped into the program. We have plenty of local and regional talent. We play in the premier college baseball conference along with LSU. Like you, the only two things I see that separate Tennessee from LSU is the financial commitment (which we've addressed, apparently) and the historical success. All history has a starting point.
It is against a 42 year old.
8 year difference cannot be that much of a pro. How many coaches actually coach for 20 years at a single school anymore? Very few. If they think O'Connor is the better coach, he will still give them at least 15 years of success assuming he is as good as they think he is because even then he'll only be 65.
