Yes, I saw this but took his quote with a grain of salt. This helps remove the distraction and all of the hype and gets the focus on the CWS as OConnor would want. Coach M is doing OConnor a solid by making this statement while UVA is still playing in the CWS. Let’s see what happens when UVA’s season is over. I still think that he’s the #1 target for LSU. Go Vols!

Just stopping by to say that we have an actual game today in a few hours at 2pm.

Everyone is entitled to post however often they want, wherever they want.

Speaking for myself, the coaching search is on the back burner at least until the game is over. Our guys’ season is on the line and they deserve our full attention and support. Sometimes we are so busy squabbling about the future that we forget to live in the moment.

Let’s get the win and send the Horns home to Austin.

It's one thing to sign an extension in the middle of the regular season, it's another thing entirely to expect contract talks and extensions to become official in the middle of a Super Regional or CWS. You call yourself a realist, but it's not very realistic to expect a coach trying to win a national championship to be more focused on his contract than the team he is currently coaching.

Prove it happens most of the time when the coach is in the situation CTV is in, please. He has a chance to win the CWS, which would increase his bargaining value with UT (and anyone else) considerably).

It seems fairly obvious to me that Tony (and his agent) might have reasoned that it's best to focus on playing baseball until the Vols are done, after which they'll have dedicated conversations with UT and, yes, LSU.

If we're being honest with ourselves, Tony would be stupid NOT to chat with LSU about their job opening. He's obviously earned that opportunity. But he's got more important things to focus on than a contract right now, like winning in Omaha. He knows whatever comes next is going to be substantial.

Why would he until after the CWS is over? He has all of the leverage and it only grows if he should make it further in the CWS. In other words, his stock will only go up. CAA or any agency would strongly advise him to wait until after the CWS to finalize his contract. Plus, there’s a HUGE CWS game today and TV’s focus is 100% on his team and the CWS.

So there’s not a curfew or room checkers going around during the CWS of all times?

1) I can’t imagine that’s the case
2) I can’t imagine a team this upperclassmen ladened, a team this focused/driven as they have been all year, a team this tight-knitted potentially throwing it all away at the end for a few beers

After reading all 73+ pages of this thread, let's look at the pros and cons of the LSU vs TN positions, EXCLUDING salary, prestige, facilities, fan base, legacy, etc., which have been beat to death:
Baton Rouge/ Knoxville, +TN
Swamp/Smokies, +TN
Recreation on Miss River/TN River +TN
Cajun/BBQ and biscuits, draw
New Orleans/Atlanta & Nashville for weekend getaway, +TN( except maybe for Mardi Gras).
New Orleans/Nashville &Atlanta for Mrs Vitello's shopping trips, +TN
State Income Tax, +TN
Year round weather, +TN
Threat of Hurricanes,+TN

Please advise if I missed something, but if all other factors are fairly equal, looks like TN wins this one.

Also, if Woodward is this mastermind AD with complete control of his athletic department, how is it so much information about Tony Vitello is leaking out to the public right now? I feel like that is something he'd want under lock and key, similar to how he conducted the rest of his coaching searches.
