Because I don’t think he’s worth it..yet. I feel pretty confident that he continues on an upward to flat (to 2021) trajectory but I’d need a few more years sample size to “confirm” my beliefs. It’s a lot of money to invest if it doesn’t go the route you perceived it would go. Overpaying, bad contracts, heat of the moment extensions etc. for the last 15 years are what got us into the financial pits we find ourselves in. I know DW isn’t Dave Hart, but how many people foresaw Butch tanking like he did but on the flip side how many saw Michigan actually hiring him after 2014? Hart freaked out, overcompensated a guy after 2 years for steady progressions and it wound up costing us an additional $8-$9m when we canned him. TV has forgotten more about baseball (and probably football) than Butch ever knew about football so I’m not comparing their coaching but the resume to date, wouldn’t make me spend $5M on a baseball staff. I’d go $1.3-$1.5 for TV and I think that’s plenty fair given his success YTD.
Would you pay him $500k more than Corbin? Or $1.5M more than Sully? If so, why?

Yep. I don’t think it comes to that, but if it does?

Here’s why.

He has worked out to be the shining example of the typical UT hire, right? Hire a guy with no head coaching experience? Check.

Pay him a middle of the road salary, check.

He performs above his head in year two, year 3 he’s cut short due to COVID and loses a few pitchers that would mess up most teams and in year 4 he gets to host a super for the first time in UT history. Check.

As I’ve said many times, these things don’t happen in a vacuum.

We shouldn’t be here. Ole Miss isn’t and it seems like ECU isn’t for long, VU isn’t…

We have a whole bench of promising talent, don’t mess this up Danny.

If it means I don’t get to go to games anymore because tickets are too high, so be it.

Let’s be good at something for a change.

Volquest was asked numerous times about CV’s status during their Monday night chat. FWIW, CV hadn’t met with anyone from LSU and that he was focused on his team.

In my opinion, that Tigerdropping post is a bunch of BS. Just a bunch of smoke.

On 3HL yesterday, a former Tennessee player at the CWS said that his sources told him Arizona’s Johnson was LSU’s next coach.

Meanwhile, Basilio said that his sources tell him that Woodward is focused on O’Connor.

Woodward is deliberately stirring up chaos just like he did when he strung along Bianco. He’s a snake.

For sure, we do, and I think we will. It’s been said that multiple times that Tennessee won’t lose CV because of money. I refuse to believe that he has agreed to any offer from LSU without sitting down with Tennessee. That goes against everything we’ve come to know about him about loyalty etc.

Woodward may just be playing the game, but I still think he’s a snake.

Yep, I don’t go there during baseball season, every now and then during football and basketball seasons sometimes. But in this instance I get it, I don’t do it, but I get it.

GBO! 🍊👊🏽 I understand why everyone is understandably anxious. So am I, to an extent, but not panic mode yet. Perhaps it’s naivety on my part about the good faith and nature of people. With that said, I also realize that these coaching search folks are cutthroat and ruthless. It is what it is.

This is our first appearance in Omaha in 16 years, and instead of enjoying the ride, we have to worry about our coach leaving. I’m honestly starting to think that we just can’t have nice things in this state at this point.

It would be so TN for this joy to be being taken away by TV leaving for some outrageous offer from LSU. Woodward’s flair for the dramatic big hire is what makes me concerned. My heart says TV stays but my head knows anything’s possible.

Could it be the most simple answer is the correct answer?

Woodward interviewed ECU and Ole Miss coach, but wanted to interview some others after season's end...Sully isn't even interested. Bianco interviewed but backed off because he loves Ole Miss. Godwin is still waiting while ECU comes back to him with a huge offer, but he's still listening. LSU hasn't met with anyone in CWS because those coaches are actually invested in their current task?

Could it be that the "smoke" is actually message board made up nonsense or speculation? Could it be that all of the debating we've done on this board about how grand of a job LSU is and how they're the Bama of College Baseball is not how it's actually being perceived by candidates?

Well said and great points. I think UVA’s Coach is in play and is who Woodward is observing while in Omaha. He checks all of the boxes and would be a HR hire that LSU covets.

Based on what information? Where has it been reported our guys were up late before the game because "our coach is gone"? Just stop this insane nonsense.
