I think you're missing the point. It's the supply chains that got shut down. Many of these ports are also being held down by unions. The average unload time in the US is 3x that of other countriesContinues to amuse that "conservatives" are whining that the government isn't doing more to fix shortages.
We've been lucky but likely made it easier by buying all fixtures like appliances, plumbing, lights and fans on our own through my wife's company. We took the oven over to the house this morning and that was the final piece missing. Even the garage doors were already installed. With few exceptions I can't think of many times that prices rolled back to the starting point after the "crisis" passed - or when price rollbacks didn't involve downsizing of container or contents.
I'm having a hard time believing the backlog at the ports is causing backlogs of groceries and food supplies. If we're reliant on imports for food production, we're screwed 6 ways from Sunday.
