I'm just glad ours was finished in April. I made the decision to purchase appliances instead of including in the build and everything was in prior to close except refrigerator (which took almost a month post close to get here). We used bags of ice and a cooler until we got fridge in and damn fence was astronomical. We signed contract and closed at perfect time. We've been lucky but likely made it easier by buying all fixtures like appliances, plumbing, lights and fans on our own through my wife's company. We took the oven over to the house this morning and that was the final piece missing. Even the garage doors were already installed. Others aren't so lucky right now
The domestic produced stuff is hampered simply by a need for more truckers and possibly some factories that may still be implementing strict COVID protocols that are limiting productivity.I'm having a hard time believing the backlog at the ports is causing backlogs of groceries and food supplies. If we're reliant on imports for food production, we're screwed 6 ways from Sunday.
The fact that activating the National Guard to serve as laborers and truck drivers is even a thought with this administration shows how inept they are. Don't they understand NG members have civilian jobs? I'd be mad as hell if I were pulled out of my civilian job and paid less to drive a truck or unload ships.
White House has weighed tapping National Guard to address mounting supply chain backlog
One of my Son in law's father was a truck driver and was more than willing to keep driving until he failed his DOT physical. He had leg damage from Vietnam and drove a truck since not long after he came back and healed. After 40 years, some doctor said he wasn't fit to drive with his injuries, so he was retired before he wanted to be. How can someone drive for 40 years and all of a sudden he can't shift gears anymore? F the DOT.Because somewhere along the line we convinced our children driving a truck was substandard work.
Add in major DOT regulations pushing people away and you have a driver shortage.
Oh I'm not going otr. We're basically in a warehouse hub in central Florida and everyone is looking for drivers. My company has just put up a permanent sign advertising for itIf you like to treated like ****, paid $12-$15 hr, eat crappy food and be away from home OTR trucking is a great job.
Seriously though, there are some great jobs that require a CDL.
I’ve been waiting on a Whirlpool washer and dryer I ordered in early July. Glad it’s not something I need. I do have a creek nearby.
Our country is too stupid to develop autonomous trucks, yes we have the technology, but no we aren't willing to invest the bucks to make it happen. We can absolutely make it work, but making an autonomous lane down thousands of miles of interstate highways won't happen in my lifetime. The downside of a young person choosing truck driving as a career is the development of autonomous vehicles. But there could be a lot of compensation earned over the next decade or two.
I've been debating that very thing. I have a refrigerator that is 15 years old and I had to fix it about a year and a half ago. I don't know how long it will last, but if it poops out in the next year or two, I guess I'll just go to the local Home Depot and buy what they have on the floor in the short runIt's enough to make you wonder if you should order a refrigerator and have it on standby. We managed to get a dishwasher three weeks after the old one quit, but I did pay significantly more to get it at Best Buy rather than Lowes so that we could have one quicker.

They're running them on test tracks around here all the time and some big companies are in on it. Platooning trucks will be a thing shortlyOur country is too stupid to develop autonomous trucks, yes we have the technology, but no we aren't willing to invest the bucks to make it happen. Your right, autonomous trucks would require separate lanes or even highways to keep them separate from passenger vehicles.
