Concerning the "Best Staff in the Country" jokes

You are wrong.
I don't feel that my opinion amounts to a hill of beans in the great scheme.
I still have the right to express it though.

Your always smug negative opinions of CBJ definitely smell like the by product of eating a hill of beans. And once expressed are open for criticism as are mine. Price that is paid once the SUBMIT REPLY button is clicked.

You said this ain't Cincinnati...well Louisville ain't either....same conference both coaches came from after both being successful there. Your implying it can't happen with a HC from that conference....I'm reminding you it has already happened once. That is all.

He didn't make those comments while at CMU or Cincy. He made them at UT.

And I asked you, if given equal talent are you taking Petrino or Jones? That is all.

Does not mean our very intelligent  fan base should let out head coach sell us BS like that and get away with it without being criticized.

It is like a proud parent of an honor student.
It is like a proud parent thinking their ugly kid is beautiful.
It is like the guy who thinks his wife looks like Megan Fox....but she looks like she ate Megan Fox.

People brag and boast all the time about things that make you scratch your head. This is why the comment he made is so petty to me. You believe it because that is what you feel in your heart about family...and his staff is his family.

I hope she doesn't play volleyball and being recruited by Louisville! :ermm:

If so, you better attend every game, packing heat, and have a steady hand! :good!:

I really think when he said it, he didn't think anything about it. Afterall, he's coached in the MAC and Big East where they don't give 2 rips about football compared to the SEC.

In the SEC, EVERYTHING is scrutinized to the nth degree. Just look at this board. Nothing is private.

Well Petrino...all though he was on my list during the coaching search because he just wins and is proven. I also had Butch Davis high as well. Just wanted an excellent recruiter/proven winner....that was my formula....if Gruden said no of course.

Petrino without the baggage would have been great. I'm not unsold on Jones, though. I think he's learned this isn't the MAC or Big East and it's time to get down to business.

If this staff had Bray, CP, Hunter....with North and Pig this season to go with our run game....we may have won the east and Jones is a genius. But we had table scraps on offense to make a dinner out of for a season with the loss of those players and Rivera to the NFL.

I really think we could have made some noise if they had stayed for their senior season.

UF is a win as is UGA. Mizzou, Auburn, and Bama would have been tough.

Regardless, the O wasn't as talented, for sure.

I think it's pretty telling how great of a job Butch has done PR wise that the "best staff in America" quote is the only thing people can hold against him.

Besides losing to Vandy, that is.

And losing to historically horrible UF, as well as not even being competitive vs Oregon, Bama, Mizzou, and Auburn. Other than that it was a great year.

He opened himself wide up to it by 1) claiming at his introductory press conference that he'd hire the best staff in the country, and then 2) hiring almost all of his existing staff from Cincinnati. It was a dumb thing to say.

It may very well be the best in the country. No one knows. Time will tell. Rating him on his word and one season is a joke. We all knew the players he had; people expected him to make PBJ sandwiches out of chicken salad. What is funny is this- one more win and he is a savior of our program. He didn't win that one game and now we suck again. It's amazing what one game means to an entire fan base.

Best in the country??? No. Pretty good for his scheme??? Yes. Scheme vs players that were on roster??? Not so good. Future with his players and his scheme??? Brighter than an albinos a$$ in the sun.

The term "Best coaching staff" is loosely defined. Most assume it means the best position coaches there is, and the best coordinators there is. I think Butch Jones defines the best staff as the whole rather than the individual parts. The best staff to implement his system.

It's sad people really think this way

It's sad when someone calls BS correctly and another can't handle that fact.

It is what it is, an ignorant comment by our HC on more than one level. Does Butch know the names and quality of assistants on the other 115 teams? How the heck could he make such a statement unless he did?

That being said, he was hired to win games. He wasnt hired as Sunday School director afaik.

Like any human, your gonna have to overlook some warts and work to improve. Remember, is still a "young coach and man" at least at my age. He seems to have a problem saying things that aren't bulletproof facts. Aka, the "used salesman / coach speak" stereotypes. Remember Mo Couch's "heat exhaustion" day?

If this is the worst Butch does, then we're in good shape. He's still maturing IMO. I've moved on, but the Q was asked.

Gosh who cares that he said that.

he loves the large check... UT just so happens to be where he gets said check.. I guess he almost loved Colorado, too.
