It's sad when someone calls BS correctly and another can't handle that fact.

It is what it is, an ignorant comment by our HC on more than one level. Does Butch know the names and quality of assistants on the other 115 teams? How the heck could he make such a statement unless he did?

That being said, he was hired to win games. He wasnt hired as Sunday School director afaik.

Like any human, your gonna have to overlook some warts and work to improve. Remember, is still a "young coach and man" at least at my age. He seems to have a problem saying things that aren't bulletproof facts. Aka, the "used salesman / coach speak" stereotypes. Remember Mo Couch's "heat exhaustion" day?

If this is the worst Butch does, then we're in good shape. He's still maturing IMO. I've moved on, but the Q was asked.

You could've just said "DUHHHH" and "RECTANGLES ARE PRETTY" and gotten the same point across.

What's best is all too often a matter of opinion and faith. Neither which makes either true. Or even true but happenstance and circumstance can skew results.

WWII, Germany had the best military hands down. So much so that even today we base our hardware on their "ancient WWII" designs. The Abrams tank is little more than a more modern Panzer. The Tomohawk is nothing but a computerized V-1 missile. The Minute Man and Titan ICBMs were just bigger and better V-2 rockets. And the B-2 Bomber is just a bigger and more complex Horton HO 229.Derman was the best but sheer numbers of their opponents made them as much losers as a scorpion attacked by a horde of army ants. Plus they had a leader who didn't have sense enough to listen to his own generals and insisting on wasteful tactics that made no tactical sense.

My point is you really can have the best of anything and still come out on the losing end. To put it in perspective, the pre-declined UT often had as much and better talent than the Gators but still lost. Mainly because we just got out-coached. So the question for us is, can the "best staff in America" coach our team to wins and back to where we belong? Time will tell. But luck, intangibles, injuries, and other assortments of this and that could impose themselves on us as they do on any team. Just ask, Saban, Helfrich, Richt, and Meyer.

An undermanned team, a team with key missing pieces, and inexperienced backups can rise to unexpected heights, or simply as they're apt to do. We saw both occur in 2013.

You are putting CBJ in pretty elite company after a 5-7 season. You're saying that because a few coaches made an impact, CBJ will also.. Blind optimism.

No. Simply giving 4 examples of coaches who came up through the ranks, had success at lesser programs and wound up doing great things in the SEC. 4 examples of guys who had unprecedented success is a good sample size. Could've thrown in Miles as well to make it 5...

This is my point, He is putting together the top recruiting classes and time will tell. His staff is putting in the hours to recruit to a school that has been the laughing stock of the SEC for a while now. I bleed orange and white and am a fan until the end, but go and read other chat boards and the Vols are being made out to be the punch lines to many jokes. IMO does he have the best staff in the country right now no, if a few years possibly.

I see people on here making jokes about CBJ's "best staff in the country" I have one question to those involved. What did you expect? Did you think he would hire Kriby Smart as the DC and Gus Malzahn as the OC?

He knows what he wants in Scheme and I think he knows exactly what he got when he hired the guys that have been winning with him for the past 6 years.

I could give a rats behind what other fans/boards are saying, my point is that it is not as easy to recruit at Tennessee as it once was. You just don't walk into a program that has been depleted, even with the best staff in America, and start winning national titles. It takes time, and yes this fan base is tired of losing seasons. Butch and company just bought an old rusted beat up neglected pos, and are in the process of refurbishing it.

It's more accurate and all but eliminates the potential for criticism when he loses, say 7 or so games, in his first year.
