Conference expansion

This would be great.

I’m real curious about how that plays out. ESPN had a decent write up on it. Apparently the PAC12/2/whatever bylaws say if you announce your intent to leave the conference you lose your voting rights. So only Oregon State and Washington State have any right to vote on what happens with the conference, according to them. So if they want to keep it and invite the whole Mountain West to use a bigger name, that’d be their prerogative.

FYI none of the departing schools have officially announced that they are leaving the PAC. lawyers are going to get fat on this mess.

Yeah, I'm curious to see how this works out. If you want to maximize your TV deal, you probably need to get rid of some of the bottom MWC teams. But you need at least 9 MWC teams to vote to dissolve the conference. So let's say 9 go to the PAC. Can you get 1, 3, or even 5 AAC teams to leave and jump on board? Would it be worth paying the buyout to the AAC to join the new PAC?

Part of me thinks this drags out for a bit, but OSU and WSU just eventually join the MWC.

announcing that you are joining another conference seems like a pretty open and shut case of leaving the PAC.

unless there are some sports staying in the PAC 12 its pretty clear they are gone.

Agree, but from a legal stand point, it gets interesting. Not saying it's right that the departing schools get to be involved in the dispersal of the PAC funds, but it's lawyers and we all know what that can mean.

Granted ice hockey isn't a PAC sport, but most PAC sports fit with the Big 10

And here we go again. Lots of smoke today on the interwebs. More smoke about Clemson than anyone else.

and they all would beat up on each other and knock even more from the playoffs

They won't play each other, it will still be at max only 9 conference games so that's not a concern with the playoffs expanding to 12 teams. Expanding to 20 teams just means the end of a lot of traditional rivalries and conference identities.

yes, but also more "better quality" teams on the schedule.... likely anyways. we'll see where it goes - SEC is gonna be the super conference lol

20 team conferences just dilute the product.
The B1G could have 22 if Clemson, FSU, UNC and uva all go together. Is that right ? And the B1G commissioner says no divisions . There’s no way you can do that w/o divisions. You might as well add 2 more to get 4, 6 team divisions. Notre Dame and Miami ? Georgia Tech or Duke would probably be the next tier.

Depends how it's rolled out. If we just do mega divisions or something Tennessee could play a 9 game schedule where we just play the "original" SEC members (as a ten team division) while the rest of the SEC has a "newbies" division.

The fact that this seems like a good idea shows how misguided and wrong the expansion was to begin with.

I'm amazed really that this is all really happening. Glad it ain't my money.

TN should leave the SEC and replace Clemson in the ACC ( So what if TN doesnt border the Atlantic coast?). They are going to need a new and better team with orange uniforms. Probably get to see more of the Vols games on network television for free + a much easier road to the playoffs.
No more fines for rushing the field.
No more stupid Nike gimmicks.
No more SEC home office in Birmingham.

What if the road to the ACC championship was in Nashville TN, instead of the SEC championship in Atlanta GA?

So did the Grant of Rights magically disappear in the few weeks since this was last mentioned?

I don't think it has. Until enough teams need/want to leave to vote to dissolve the ACC, there's not a chance this happens. Right now, there's nowhere for the "leftover" teams to go and they'd be costing themselves millions to let anybody leave.

Still not happening.

Yeah those damn Nike gimmicks would never happen in the ACC. Literally, every single school in the ACC would trade places with us in a heartbeat.IMG_1942.jpegIMG_1943.jpeg

I don’t know. Someone may have cracked the code. Something seems to have happened recently for this to be tracking the way that it has.

If they're going to find a loophole, they'd better hurry. Stanford and Cal probably wouldn't be thrilled about joining a crippled ACC and they have a lot of money to pay lawyers and first class law schools to draw friendly alumni from.

Agreed. It would be ideal for Notre Dame to go ahead and join the B1G and have Stanford come along too. Cal-Berkeley can kick rocks . No one cares about their athletic programs, including their own administrators.

I laughed when Cal was in the mix to jump. I think they thought ACC stands for American Cannabis Conference.

If it means not losing to the Florida Gators again like we seem to do every year, then sign me up.

I think SEC adds Clemson and FSU to keep the B1G out. Not sure if UNC goes with SEC or B1G. B1G still tends to give off the snobby, "we have better academics" mentality that UNC may like.
