Confident USU Fans (blue cool-aid)

Phil Steele

I understand you return players from a perspective of having played in games, as do we, but according to Phil Steele you return the least starters in the country, 7 inlcuding a punter and kicker.

We return slightly more at 10, not including a punter and kicker.

I already addressed this in an earlier post. steele's list is wrong. not a surprise, he doesn't spend a lot of time on the mid-major teams.

Look at their secondary and compare to UT's receivers... That's where the idea comes from that UT can win this one handily. Even if all other things are equal, that looks like such and overwhelming mismatch that a "blowout" starts to look fairly reasonable.

Football is a funny game. Weird stuff happens. But their back 7 should really struggle against the size, speed, and talent UT will throw at them in the passing game.
Bingo

So you are expecting a blowout by UT?

If I recall your post correctly, we are about even on returning starters. It also sounds like there's some argument to be made by both sides regarding how much experience the new starters actually have.

No doubt I give the QB advantage to USU, assuming of course the ACL doesn't cause him physical or mental issues in the game. I'd call LB a wash. Yours are no doubt very good, but we have good folks there too. I'd be alright with you arguing a slight edge in favor of USU.

I concede the QB edge, and for sake of argument concede a slight edge at LB. Where else does USU have an edge in the matchups? On paper I'd give UT an edge on both lines, but I won't claim it until I really see it in the game. I really don't see any other place on the field where USU can match up, but I'm certainly open to hearing a reasonable discussion as to what I'm missing.

My friend... you just don't understand. You see their LB's are better than AJ. In fact, I believe one poster on the board linked here said that UT had not seen LB's as good as the ones they will see vs USU... You know, the SEC is know for producing very few good LB's and all.

And their QB? Murray, Newton, McCarron, Shaw, et al... They're TRASH compared to Keeton.

Dude you just need to get with the program... The monster Aggies are going to walk into Neyland with their superior players and stomp UT to a pulp...

Dang boy... ev'body 'no dat....:whistling:

Damn, I stand corrected. How did I miss all those standouts?

Good post. So despite all of that, Tenn will win by 20+?

No earthly idea. Doubtful.

I discount the lazy ass idiot national sports media that sees one sentence, " Tennessee is the only team in the country that has to replace every starter on both lines of scrimmage" and reflexively says UT is gonna suck, will be damn lucky to win 5 games and squeak by both USU and Arkansas State. However, when Vegas sets the line a -6.5, I take notice and get a little more concerned.

This game turns on the TE's that we have now. Huge difference that the LB's for Utah State will have to cover legit threats in the middle of the field and if they don't tackle well they got problems. We did not have that last year in our offense and we have it now....makes everything better...

That's the perception. Otherwise, good post.

Jones is pretty good at propaganda but once in awhile his assistants hurt his effort. While he's been critical of the QB's, Bajakian said they had 3 good players. He's coached good QB's so I assume he knows what one looks like... :)

I take that as a good cop/ bad cop situation. Jones keeping their ego in check and the asst building them back up. Trying to keep them consistent

So you are expecting a blowout by UT?

Define blowout.

I am expecting UT to win by 17+ pts. As I said, I do NOT expect their secondary to hold up to UT's receivers.... and UT is simply a much more talented team overall. USU DOES have some good players. But the difference is the players that surround the "stars".

Fair enough. I "EXPECT" more in the range of +7-10 win.

Then again I would not be surprised if this game is similar to the NC state game a few years ago.

I'm leaning that way pretty strongly for about the same reasons... except that USU does not have a DB that would have started for that NCSU team. UT has several guys who would find PT in that WR rotation.

In Utah States rotation? I should hope so lol.

So after reading their boards, it seems like the photo negative of VN. All their fans expect a win and several expect it to be over by half time. I'm not offended by that at all. Good for them. They should feel that way. They have been pretty good the last few years. We haven't been the Vols of old.

To me, the closeness hinges on Keeton. He's a baller If he is 100 percent, he will keep this game pretty close. 7 to 10 points. If he is rusty/injured/not 100 percent for any reason it's a blowout. Our QB situation is nowhere near as bad as the fans on the USU board believe. While their D is pretty good, better than a healthy Florida D they are not. Not even close.

Two things that make me believe we win this game. No penalties in game one last year. Butch will have these boys ready. The second thing this is the first year since any of these players have been here that the entire coaching staff returns intact. That is huge. We should see the very best out of our guys. While Utah St is a respectable opponent, if our guys play their best at home we should win.

I'll be posting my "what other message boards are saying" threads again this year. I've already got utah state's ready, I'll release it the week of the game. It's got some serious gems in it. Everything to them is about wins, strength of schedule is completely irrelevant. They believe that since they've won more recently, they are the superior program.

And they constantly repeat how they are "loaded with NFL talent". They've had 17 players go pro in the entire history of their program.

Can you post a "what they are saying post game" one as well. Would be interesting when we pound them

This whole thread has a very NC State/Amerson 2012 feel to it...we saw how that played out...at a neutral site...against P5 competition...with Dooley and Sal...just sayin'

USU is a good football team... they should be confident...and they are catching the Vols at the most opportune time of the season to steal a win.

HOWEVER... It won't happen for the Aggies. This match-up is reminiscent of the day Butch brought his 2nd Cinci team to Knoxville. UT will give up some plays... but will make many, many more.

UT 45 - USU 27

This is my thoughts. I think the score will be more like 38 to 14 though.

I love the "17 players in the NFL in their history" comment. We have 72 NFL draft picks, so at least that many, but that doesn't count free agents. We had 12 from last season sign with a team, though not all of them made the cut. we have more than 17 on NFL rosters right now. No idea where he pulled that number from.

How many draft picks has Tennessee had the last 4 years? I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely curious.

There are a lot of UT fans acting like idiots in this thread, but honestly after reading that train wreck over at USUFans.com, this isn't as bad.

USU is a solid team and will go on to have a solid season after our game. Y'all are going to get butchered though. I predict a roughly three score difference. I know this is hard to understand as a USU fan as the perception around UT isn't that great, but we are just that much more talented a team.

NFL Players by College - U - National Football League - ESPN

Is where I got it. It could have been a list of active players, the website doesn't specify as far as I can see. If I'm wrong I'll correct it when I post the thread, but that's how I took it.
