A few of us were buying cheap tix for $5 a head and walking down to the lower level to watch the game... sometimes unprovoked, sometimes the announcer would even get on the PA and ask the fans to come to the lower level. Those were NOT the days... Better seats, worse product...

Quite the opposite. I believe most pre-Pearl Tennessee basketball fans (myself included) liked Pearl because he made the basketball program better. Winning cures everything. If Martin can do what Pearl did or more I will be a huge fan of his as well. And this will make me a "Martin(substitute catchy phrase here)" that some genius on VN will come up with.

I'm still hoping there's a sizable portion of the UT fan base that doesn't truly believe that Pearl wasn't bigger than the program, but I'm really still not sure. Good attendance would be a way I'd like to be proven wrong next season, but I know times are tough, and UT basketball probably won't be anything to write home about in 11/12. One can hope, though.

Sounds like some think you have to be a Pearl fan to be a basketball fan.... Which would make sense since those people didn't know basketball existed before Pearl and thinks he was "basketball"

Some of them actually have said Pearl is a better coach than Bill Self and John Calipari.

Your logic is flawed as is all the blind Pearl haters. Most UT bball fans liked Pearl because of what he did for UT basketball. Which is the most successful 6 years the program has ever seen. If Pearl had a losing record here he would not have been popular no matter how much glad handing, baby kissing, car salesman, UT loving tears he squirted. Period end of story. It's time to get behind Zo and quit bashing Pearl. Geez what are you guys gonna do if Zo wins and people get behind him. Start calling everyone "Zolophiles" instead of UT basketball fans.

I will take wins,tournaments and sweet 16 runs over getting guys drafted. Look at all the players Fulmer had drafted and we won 1 NC.

I'm not exactly a Cal or a UK defender, but that is a very odd comment about a guy who has an SEC championship and 2 SECT titles, a Final Four, and an Elite Eight appearance in two years in his current job.
