Cooper is a Lady Gamecock

Holly said that Te'a had decided to transfer from the program. She didn't say that Te'a was not given the option to stay with the program. I wish the whole thing would come out.

I think that something is seriously wrong with Holly if she allowed cooper to go to South Carolina.

If Holly Warlick can resign her position today and go to South Carolina to coach in the fall, shouldn't a student-athlete have the same option? Why is there one set of rules for the coaching staff, but a more onerous set for the student-athletes?

Because coaches and students are apples and oranges?

If Cooper was expelled from school, then Warlick was dishonest with the public as she said, did she not, that Cooper had decided to transfer--making it seem as if the decision was hers when in fact it was the university's. This is a question that the media SHOULD put to Warlick--why she misled the public. Or did I miss Warlick saying that Cooper had been expelled? I don't remember hearing or reading that. This situation has been BADLY handled by the basketball program and/or the university. You should state the facts and not try to give the public some public relations song-and-dance.

They never should release to a school in the conference if for no other reason than to keep the player from sharing intelligence on her former team. She'd been better off not speaking about the matter because she essentially lied. It won't matter to most people but she was caught nonetheless by anyone paying attention.

I guess you've never heard of a situation where an employee is given the option of resigning or being fired?

In those circumstances, assuming the employee chooses to resign, the "official" position announced by the company is that the employee left voluntarily. While there may be rumors that float around and people within the company may know the "true" story, that doesn't change the official position.

In this instance, there is nothing more than message board chatter to support anything other than the "official" position and, frankly, demands by anonymous message board posters for "facts" are going to, rightly, be met with the silence that they have resulted in, so far.

And, by the way, can anyone remember an occasion when Pat Summitt restricted a player who transferred? I can't, and frankly, I, for one, sincerely hope that the Lady Vols continue that tradition.

So did Dawn Staley find out through social media that she would be coaching this kid...or what?

Well don't worry , one thing Holly is not and that is intelligent.

Yes, Cannon. Pretty much what I said about resigned/fired in post #114 of the other Cooper thread, but I did not think about Pat. I don't recall her ever restricting and am all for continuing the tradition.

Qualifier: if another school had pulled unethical stunts etc. I would have a different opinion as to restrictions.

One important caveat to your otherwise relevant example is that most companies also have non competes on employees at middle management or higher that prevent them from working for a direct competitor even if the employee was fired without cause.

I wish certain fans would redirect this sentiment back unto themselves and hold themselves accountable for what they are or are not.

Holly went to bat for Te'a over and over. Te'a and Holly were close, like a point guard and head coach should be. Unfortunately the player made her own decisions on multiple occasions that put her in a position where she had to leave a place she hoped to stay at. If it was up to the coaches, players and Te'a there would still be consequences but she would very much still be a welcomed member of the team. This was an administration decision and the AD or coaches did not have a say.

T'ea's sister was once a commit to SC and her family has a longstanding relationship with Dawn... SC was the only school she was going to transfer to.

It is what it is as Pat would say. As much as people want to believe that this situation is some kind of reflection of Holly it is simply not the case.

In the 'Cooper leaving' thread, it was said Holly wasn't truthful when she said Te'a asked for a transfer. In retort, many fans "in the know" said she was kicked out of school by the administration. It was also stated if a player is kicked out of school, she wouldn't have to wait a year to play. Is that in facr an NCAA rule? If so, what rule number is it?

Holly may have been able to say she was dismissed from the program. But maybe the law forbid her from saying that a student was kicked out of a university.

Honesty is the best policy--and it would appear that there has not been honesty about the reason that Cooper has left the program. If she was kicked off the team or expelled, WHY has there been secrecy about it? The university or program should say that she was expelled or asked to leave the team because of a violation of school (or team) policy. Players get kicked off of teams regularly, and it is usually announced as such. The university and the basketball program owe Cooper nothing, it seems to me, regardless of whether she chose to transfer (doubtful) or whether she was expelled or forced to leave. Cooper has created difficulties for the program. Why create the impression that SHE was dissatisfied at UT and chose to transfer--to our conference rival, no less--if that is not actually case? That's bad PR for UT, as I see it, and why create bad PR for yourself when the player's conduct was the issue?

Yes, I agree. Acting like she CHOSE to leave could hurt the LVs with recruiting. If she was given her walking papers, it should be said by the university and why

If Holly went to bat for Te'a over and over. She must have gotten into trouble a lot. Will she do the same thing at South Carolina.

I was in Knoxville today and the story given is she didn't want to leave but would have to face the disciplinary committee. She didn't want to face the committee so she asked for a transfer instead. I'm sure she knew what was coming if she faced the committee so she decided to transfer instead of facing the music. If this is the case, nobody lied and it seems to fit the circumstances. Anyway, she's gone. Move along folks, there is nothing else to see here.

Yet another rumor from someone who was in Knoxville today (and therefore it must be true). Somebody must have lied namely those here who gave other versions of the story indicating their story was the truth. SMH.

NCAA transfer rules require Cooper to be enrolled in classes for two full semesters at South Carolina before she will be eligible to play. She will then have two years of eligibility remaining.

She now has a much better chance of winning a national championship with Dawn than if she had stayed and played for Holly Warlick.

Your act has gotten old... Go to the boneyard.

I specifically remember when Kelsey Bone was transferring from SC several years ago that Dawn Staley listed Tennessee among a group of teams that she would not grant a release for. Unless it's true that Cooper was kicked out of school by the administration, SC is the one school who she should not be granted a release to attend.

Coaches shouldn't get too close to any one player, even point guards. Not good for morale.

No need to worry about sharing "intelligence" because there is none on the Lady Vols BB coaching staff.

I would hope that most of us still realize that we are talking about young adults playing a game. They are not sharing classified material with enemies.

Not really the point... Staley would not release a transfer to come to Tennessee, so we should not release a transfer to play at SC. This whole thing does make me think perhaps Cooper was asked to leave. I'm sure that Warlick remembers Staley blocking Kelsey Bone from considering Tennessee.
