Cooper Mays possibly out for Florida

The healing time is one thing. Due to the injury, and no working out, it's worse. It will take 3weeks- month to get back in football shape. Most unfortunate. Maybe SCAR , but likely A&M. He isn't coming back less than 100%.

Never said he diesnt have someone to step up. But it’s like last year with Wright. If he went down would there have been someone to fill in his spot on the OL? Sure. Does that mean that person is gonna be as good as Weight? No. The next man up excuse doesn’t work for every position. Especially not one as important as center. You obviously don’t realize how important a center is.
Our tempo is what sets us apart from other systems. I don’t understand how some people think it’s just not a big deal if our experienced Senior center is out for an extended period. Of course we’ll have a guy that will snap the ball and block, but efficiency is so important to what we do. It’s just not as simple as plug in the next guy .

He had surgery on August 9. I believe the expectation is minimum 4 weeks to heal enough to do heavy lifting and strenuous activities.

September 6 will be exactly 4 weeks from surgery, so we are still 2 weeks away/only half way there now.

Solid post. UF is September 16 so that game gets him 5 weeks plus to be ready. Seems reasonable.

Ya I’m sure the guy has to sit in a chair and do nothing until he’s cleared. Cmon. The kid will be doing cardio with certainty.

Radio this AM says he will ne reealuated VA week. (next week). Don't know what that means though. Just a check of progress?
Word is they are going to look into his issue similar to previous evaluations. They will almost assuredly look to see if he has gotten better or worse, and by how much.

Ollie's got it covered
" Stan here's another fine mess you've gotten me into"
Laurel & Hardy; 1933
Not all folks have had the joy of watching Ollie and Stanley make them laugh. Grew up,debatable if I really did, enjoying also with my two children laughing and still at their early 30's. "I had nothing better to do Ollie so I came to see you in the hospital." "Thanks Stanley ...hmph"

At this point if you haven't resigned yourself to being pleasantly surprised if Mays plays at all then you've been foolish. He can't stay healthy. Sad but just a reality for whatever reason.

Like someone said, we're 3 years in and they should have multiple options to fill the spot. Yes it is a difficult position to play but they've had time. Several of those guys have had a lot of snaps. Some guys have another gear when their adrenaline starts pumping like Hooker did. One of the options... will step up and be just fine.
He played all last year though...

Our senior center was a sophomore center during CJH’s first year. Would rather have him but it’s not the end of the world.

We'll play a lot of guys on the o/line, that's what we do.
We basically trained most of fall camp without him (Mays), so it's not like
we're not prepared. Hope he's back soon.
Coach Halzle says we're ready to roll! I am too.

Go Big Orange!

Didn’t say it was. Just pointing out that to act like it was no big deal is kind of crazy.

Lol. Center is the hardest position to replace on the OL. You can’t just slide anyone there.
on the positive side Coaches have had more than a month to get next man up ready. and next man up is a senior in his third year in the program

TLDR version it could be worse

Hernia surgery sucks. After my first one they didn't want me to pick up a gallon of milk which is ridiculous for a man my size. They didn't want me to swim, bike, or anything except walk.

Cooper might be working some but not much because tearing the thing completely ends his year.

Doubt it

Not that bad of an injury

I keep reading four to six week recovery

But that's with normal people

It's already been about two weeks

I’m not comfortable giving out specific details of an individual’s private life, including their health. I’ll just say his issue is tricky. They’re hopeful that the procedure will allow him to exert himself completely in a few weeks. If not, it will be because the procedure was not able to completely address the issue. In that case, he’d have to have a more complex surgery with a longer recovery time. Just to say it again, I’m rooting for him to be back soon, healthy. Great kid. Great player. In the last two weeks, the interior of the line has been steadily improving. They’ll get a big test from a mature and athletic Virginia D line. That’ll be a good indication of how we’ll be without him.

So if the OL does well against Virginia how would you feel about the unit as a whole? Still question marks or are they pretty comfortable?
