Could be the biggest underachieving team in UT history

Exactly. When he plays the tougher teams, his record is barely. 500. Not exactly HOF worthy. Like I said, he's an average coach that will give us average results. And that's fine with most Vol fans.

I’d say he’s better than average but certainly not HOF worthy.

Really? What data do you use? You'll surely talk about his all-time wins, but ignore he's been a head coach for 40+ years. Nothing else he has done is overly impressive. One FF. No NC's. One tourney championship all-time. 3 conference titles and .5 an SEC title. Those are good numbers. Not great. How's that garbage?
Called his shot, he had nothing else... lol

Pearl was close, very close to building something very special at UT. Everyone knew it and no one liked it (except us).

The big traditional schools hated the success he was having here and the fix was in. He fell for the okie doke, the setup. Yes, he lied. But that was the excuse to derail him like they wanted to do. It was a slap on the wrist had he not lied and should have only been a very minor probation for the situation and UT should have stood with him.....
Don’t agree. I think we’re trending downward. Pearl had a very disappointing final season in 2011...19-15 record, 8-8 in the SEC and had our butts handed to us by Michigan by 30 in the 1st round. And he had Tobias Harris (legit NBA player) and Scotty Hopson on that team. And folks who complain about Barnes offense must have forgotten about Pearl’s half court flex offense where we passed around the perimeter only to jack up a three point shot with the clock running out. He was a showman who was a wiz on inbounds plays (both offensively and defending it), but wasn’t a brilliant X’s and O’s coach otherwise. Never really liked him giving his kid double digit minutes over two years when he should have been handing out towels on the sidelines.

You’ve had magical out of body years over and over during your lifetime?! Geeze...I thought I was doing well to have a magical out of body night once every month or so.
Ha! I figured someone would jump on that interpretation after I reread it.

Those guys often get into the Hall

40% of 3,000 Club members have batting averages under .300, and all but three members (Rose, Palmero and potentially A-Rod) are either in the Hall of Fame or absolute shoe-ins.

You don't achieve 3,000 hits by being merely "okay," just as you don't surpass 700 wins at high-major NCAA schools by being an average coach. Anyone trying to pretend otherwise is being disingenuous, unnecessarily so given that no one considers Barnes to be one of the all-time greats as opposed to just a very good coach.

If you would have bothered to read my post... he has 724 wins over a 44 year period= 16.4 wins per year. If that's great... the bball HOF must be packed.
Once again... you've totally ignored the length of time he's been a HC.

LMAO...it seems your avatar is meant to be indicative of your posts

Math must be hard. This is his 34th year, so 33 complete seasons. 1 at GM, 6 at Providence, 4 at Clemson, 17 at Texas, 6th currently at UT.

He hit 700 early this year, so I will choose 695. 695/33= 21 wins per year. Pre-2000’s, most teams played less games, and there are a number of years he only played 29/30 total.

He’s only the 23rd D1 coach EVER to win 700. People are trying too hard to be this dumb.

WRONG... his head coaching career started in 1977. But good try.

I'd be interested to see the February resumes of some other SEC, ACC, Big 10, and Big 12 coaches over the past 4 years. Let's put your theory to the test. I just don't understand what is hard to comprehend about the idea that we are more probe to lose games as the competition stiffens. That seems like common sense, and not an issue that is exclusive to Rick Barnes, regardless of how you feel about him. It would seem like that statistical trend would transcend all of major college basketball with few exceptions.

So again, I'll ask, what's your point?
Its easy. He's a good coach. Not a great coach. What's so hard to comprehend. We could do worse, but we could also do much better, IMO. Again... our bball program is much more appealing than our fball team right now. BTW... its very hard to find stats for coaches in certain months. I tried with K, Dean Smith, Knight... it's a task to find winning % for certain months. Help yourself and report back what you find. I think you'll be surprised.
