Could Saban be leaving?

The Colts opening would be the acid test for Saban's desire to coach anywhere else.

He's already at a power house college program. Why would he ever take another college job over that one? Money? Bama will match all offers including USC and TX. So he doesn't take another college job.

The Colts are not a fixer upper. They are close for a real run back to the top personnel wise. And they have Luck. A relatively young and definitely top notch franchise QB.

So if he passes this job up he is not going anywhere else for the rest of his career.

Be funny to see him leave and the bammers promote Kiffen. How long would it take that arse clown to screw up what they've had going on down there?

That would be nice, but won't happen I don't think.

They actually are a fixer upper once you get past Luck. Their offensive and defensive lines are awful, and the defense generally is pretty bad. If I put myself in Saban's shoes, it's hard to come up with a reason why he'd take that job, especially considering Irsay probably wouldn't let him have full control of the roster.

Nick would be stupid not to take that job

Not really. He is the king of Tuscaloosa and has proven that he can consistently finish as one of the best teams in the country. Plus, I highly doubt Indy will offer him more than he is making now. If the do, then they are beyond stupid. Saban failed into the NFL.

Saban is not leaving. Right now he does not have a salary cap to deal with. So he out spends everyone else and gets to play with the best players. In the NFL he will have to play by the same rules everybody else does.

I think Nick would take the Colts,Eagles or Giants job if they offer him the General Manager job along with that of Head Coach which is what he'll want.

They won't do that for him in the NFL (even less likely for a coach having run away from his last NFL job after two years).

I understand the skepticism but at age 64, if he is ever going to give the NFL another try, the Colts are about as 'ready made' an opportunity as would ever come his way. I'm sure they would fire the GM Grigson (who traded a first round pick for Trent Richardson in an epic brain fart) to give him control over player personnel decisions. They are not a rebuild at all.

I feel everyone's said that the last few years about various teams.

USC's 7-6 team from 2012 that began the year ranked #1 says, "WTF?"

Probation, the scholarship reductions, the bowl ban...I think everyone knew that Kiffin was brought in mainly because he was willing to weather the storm of Reggie Bush NCAA punishment cloud looming over the program that was about to strike.

Edit: that doesn't mean something like "he's a great coach" either.

Such as who? Even without Luck for 9 games, the Colts still went 8-8 and narrowly missed the playoffs. There is not a better franchise QB under 27 than Luck and they play in a division with 3 consistently bad to mediocre teams.

It was more the earlier part, not the Colts. We go through this every year with people saying "Saban's only getting older. At age X, this might be his last chance to jump to the NFL. He has to take this job that's available this year. It's his best and/or last chance." (Plus, "he's too competitive not to.")
