Country music thread

I agree with the first part of your sentence, but I just couldn't get into the last album. Totally agree with the rest. Loved this session. Sturgill singing country and/or bluegrass is fantastic. He can do whatever he wants musically, but I hope at least one of the new albums is country and/or bluegrass
Aside from a song or two, that last album is a total throw away to me. And Sturgill admitted as much in an interview. He pulled that **** to make Sony (I think that was his label) spend a ton of money on the anime film - basically just to see if they’d do it.

I don’t know. He’s a complicated guy and a total bullshitter. He’ll get rave reviews for the bluegrass work because it’s absolutely fantastic then **** on it and do an electronica album or something.

I loved his last album. He isn't in the business of making bad music. It was just a departure, he had some anger to release and he did it. The anime movie is phenomenal btw.

concert is a "go" tonight

Too much crazy in the world today. Spending my Friday night listening to Tracy Lawrence. He's freaking incredible.

I see about 0 in common between Kyle's album and Turnpike
I mean Nix has a pretty identifiable fiddle sound. The sound isn't Turnpike, but it's not miles away either. Lyrically, it's better than expected, but it is miles away from having that Felker touch. And Nix just can't deliver the lyrics like Felker or Isbell imo.

He was just on Justin Moore’s podcast the other day. Told the story about how he got mugged in Nashville ‘91, and how “paint me a Birmingham” is actually not about Birmingham Alabama.

what did he say about it? I know the songwriter based it off wanting a picture of a dear friend that passed away when she was young.

Kingsport's Ken Mellons also covered the song btw. Y'all probably don't care, but as a Tri Cities native, I do.

He said to him it’s about a style of beach house called a “Birmingham”
