Country music thread

The new Isbell album is great. Like most, I'm not crazy about the opening track.

The guitar on 3-4-5 is crazy awesome. I programmed/recorded a backing track for "Overseas" tonight (drums, bass, rhythm) and jammed the lead with a nice blues wah tone for about an hour and a half. It's got a cool Santana/Dire Straits vibe to it.

Top 3 off Reunions, I’d probably go:

Dreamsicle
St. Peter’s Autograph (a heartbreaker when you hear the backstory)
It Gets Easier

I ordered Southeastern on Vinyl today. LOVE that album, think it's his best by far. I will give Reunions a listen.
Oh yeah, nothing will beat Southeastern.

I’d put this one as his third best. Behind Southeastern and Something More Than Free.

I can’t judge though. Whether I start with Isbell, Childers, 90s stuff, Sturgill, Boland, Robison or whatever, I wind up listening to RRB, Pat, or mostly just Turnpike. I’m becoming a simpleton

Aaron Watson was on Wade's World tonight, pretty good show. Not quite as fun as it is with Randy or Cody but it was nice.

He talked for a while about Julia and Bluebonnets and about had me and the gf in tears.

I finally had time to sit and learn to play the new Isbell songs, and now I'm really in love with the album. River, St Pete, Only Children, Letting you Go... I think he might be the best songwriter of our generation.

I’m blanking on the name of this song or the artist. The lyrics go
“I love you more than life itself you’re what I’m living for, so it’s a good thing that I don’t love you anymore” I googled and it keeps pulling Doug stone, which ain’t the right song.

I’ll never fault an artist for wanting to stretch and explore what they want to do musically and I really liked the last album. That said, Sturgill playing with a band of amazing bluegrass musicians is just one of the greatest sounds on earth. Plus playing old Sunday Valley songs always gets me. Very excited to hear about two new albums coming later this year in this format.

I agree with the first part of your sentence, but I just couldn't get into the last album. Totally agree with the rest. Loved this session. Sturgill singing country and/or bluegrass is fantastic. He can do whatever he wants musically, but I hope at least one of the new albums is country and/or bluegrass

just watched it again and actually listened to the whole thing (I was working when I watched it the first time).

So apparently he's doing a Vol 1 and Vol 2 and definitely makes it seem as if both are bluegrass. Is it fall yet?
