Country music thread

I mean most of the bands we listen to have openly rebuked Nashville and mainstream. Several times. several have been doing so for literally decades. They write songs about it. But let’s not let facts get in the way of a good troll job
Bill you're a song you make me wanna roll my windows down and cruiuuuuse.

White Castle and Taco bell are both garbage, but I love me some garbage sometimes.

I'd kill for a white castle or Krystal or 8 right now.

My problem is calling someone’s work garage because it’s not your style. They may not like it but they can’t do it themselves. They might want to check calling someone with more talent than they have who also has the balls to take the shot, garbage.

Those rebels who pretend to be against the establishment making lots of money being the country equivalent of stone cold Steve Austin. I like a lot of their stuff too but let’s not pretend that it’s only about the art or they would be on a street corner for free as opposed to selling tickets to the show. In fact bill at I saw the same band this week. I saw them at Ryman. Nothing says anti country establishment like the Ryman.

But I digress

I reserve the right to call anything I consider garbage as garbage. Talent level has squat to do with that.

Question for the group:

It seems like country music, more than other genres of music, has this internal debate as to what is "real" country. Why do y'all think that is?

I know you’re just trolling, but this stuff is weak. I expect better from you
Bull ****.
I just sold a company because my work is elite. You could call it garbage but that would be a reflection of your stupidity and not the product. You don’t like the style? That’s fine. Calling someone garbage because you don’t like the style is moronic. You have accused me of trolling more than once which is odd considering your in the troll seat

I have no idea why some people think they need to tear others down to feel better about themselves. Clearly I’m the music fan here and not just a country music fan.

It’s elite in your opinion. Others might not like your work. But I’m done here

I dont know, really. Personally I enjoy songwriters, with personal stories. My tastes fall under the equally non-specific "Americana" category for that reason, I would wager the regulars of this thread would fall under the same umbrella.

I know several rap enthusiasts who are equally against new styles, sounds, etc. Same for rock. They love to trash the '00s and early '10s. I think country is just so encompassing that it gets more noise.

I can enjoy garbage food. Even garbage movies on occasion. Just not garbage music. I need music that move me and gives me emotion. I'm all for Walker Hayes and Fl/Ga Line, etc moving y'all. It doesn't move me. Not even slightly. And regardless of talent, I can call it garbage if that's what I think it is. The theory that talent matters is silly. Fail Guy silly.

And yet you managed to express yourself and your preferences without feeling the need to trash anyone else.
My problem isn’t with the opinion of not liking one style or another. It’s the attachment of personal attacks to that dislike that I find reprehensible.

Bill was Floyd Fest executed pretty well? I always get concerned about that with festivals not planned by Willy MF Braun

I think the debate with country music is different than the ones in rock and rap though. Lots of people trash new styles, especially in rap, but I don't hear anybody saying that it isn't rap. They would concede that it is rap, or it is rock; they just don't like it.

The Walker Hayeses of the world, in contrast, not only get trashed but will be declared to not even be country music in the first place, or not "real country." I am the first person to admit that his music does not really sound like country music to me, even by modern country standards. However, there was a time when people said George Strait and the entire neotraditional movement wasn't "real country" because it sounded different from Hank Williams. Not only would nobody say that today, but George Strait is basically the embodiment of country music for many people.

This deserves a proper answer (that will come soon enough), but short answer: very much so. I was incredibly impressed
Had an option to move to a 4 day schedule but 0 Fridays, I had to pass because Asheville and Knox are Thursday night towns. Was rewarded by WCG announcing a Thursday in Asheville. Grey Eagle is a good joint, go early for a burrito
