My favorite Jamey Johnson song:

Seems that the standard in Nashville now is for every new act to have a distinct sound for their first two or three albums and then gradually morph into the same "trendy produce a single radio can play once an hour" from that point forward.

More or less, they lose any individuality once they're established

Pretty much. Whether that is just a conscious morph to become more mainstream or just trying to produce songs to live up to their end of a record deal, it happens IMO.

Yep, seen it happen with Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, and Blake Shelton.

Show at Lincoln's went great the other night. Place was packed. I opened and played for about an hour. Very well received. Kevin then went for 4 hours and just owned the place! I'll fill yall in if there are future gigs.

Nice. Video?

Man, I brought my Flip and forgot in the car. It was my first time playing in a bar so i was a little more focused on not sucking. We'll definitely get it next time though. Having a video I can send to restaurant managers will help get me in a few more places I think.

nashville country, like every other pop genre, has distinct trends that come and go, particularly for less establish singers, that are adopted across the board. in the early 2000s the trend was patriot, then drifted toward the carefree outcast, followed by the redneck romeo, and now the modern blowhard hick is the thing.

So I've been trying to find new country music worth listening to since I've got back and I was wondering why so many of the radio stations were constantly playing stuff from before I left. Well I think I know why now. I've listened to the first 11 songs from GAC's Video Countdown and they aren't all just bad, they are flat out terrible. How does Justin Moore get a record contract, let alone a string of hits with that hideous made up, singing through his nose country accent? I've said music hurt my ears before without truly meaning it, but his voice (or the voice he tries to put out there) literally did hurt my ears.

I'm a fan of Garth Brooks, but what is the general public opinion on him from most country music fans? I've heard some country music fans say he revolutionized the genre and brought it national appeal, but I've also heard some say he killed traditional country as we know it.

A good argument can be made for both cases.

Garth made country music into a cash cow where anyone wearing a cowboy hat and wranglers could strum a guitar and get rich quick.

I don't really blame him for being good but too many people saw easy money by making carbon copies.

Just to be clear, Garth is better than most of the current music played on Country radio.

Eric Church's Chief will restore your hope in country music. Very different from radio country.

Yep chief came out yesterday. I preordered it and it hasnt come in yet. Ec is one of few these days that knows what true country music is.
