COVID Relief Package

This may turn out to be the most Pyrrhic victory of all time. We're going to spend $10T in some warped effort to prevent the loss of thousands of old people while selling hundreds of millions of citizens down the river into an ocean of debt. How we ever expect to recoup this money is beyond me.
But but but I was told deficits are always worse under repubs. The dadgum collections will be down significantly making for a double whammy

So you’re saying “let the old folks die”?

So you’re saying “let the old folks die”?
Sad thing is they're a lot of people who are okay with that. Disposable like a used cell phone. I always laugh when I see some man bun skinny jean latte slurper make those type of statements.

So you expected the president to literally do nothing in regards to Covid? Literally just sit there. Not have press briefings, not organize meetings between states, help them hammer out differences, work with Congress on whatever bills they came up with?

That would have been smart. Imagine if the news wasn’t reporting every single death, every single day making it out to be the most deadly thing since the plague. What would have happened? No lockdowns. No shutdowns. No school closings. No mass hysteria.

But no Trump listened to Fauci and others and followed their opinions. Fauci said he and Trump were on the same page for just about everything. Trump should have listened to his gut and kept everything open.

So you’re saying “let the old folks die”?
If I told you it would cost $10T for no guarantee that we could save the lives of X thousand Americans over the age of 75, what is the minimum number of lives saved you'd need to see to find this proposition valuable?

I can’t see sacrificing any of them. Can you?

Kind of funny how Trump wanted more money for the American people and he was bashed for it. Now Biden wants this massive amount and he is being praised.

I think Biden’s presidency should be treated just like Trumps was. Everything bad that has happened, is happening and will happen during his tenure is 100% his fault. Anything good and he gets zero credit and it was the former presidents doing.

You realize people die every day because of all kinds of things right? Our citizens and society at large makes daily decisions that mean people die. We could over engineer everything, have triple backups for all systems, have excessive medical testing and procedures to squeeze every ounce of life from every soul. It would cost trillions. It isn’t done because the value isn’t there. The Army has MRAPs that can take an IED and the crew survives without a scratch. That truck would guarantee you never die in your daily commute. It also costs $1M and gets six miles a gallon. Cost benefit should be examined in everything the government gets involved in. We need to be asking ourselves if this massive mountain of debt is worth the cost. Deflecting debate as heartless or cruel is abdicating responsibility for what we’re saddling future generations with. I would say a ten year old kid would find it pretty cruel that his grandparents sold his future away for feels.

Yes I do realize this. But your basically saying screw the older people let them die. Their lives are not important. Let’s sacrifice them. If it’s debt you’re worried about killing all the old folks isn’t the answer. how about cutting out all freebies from the government. Do away with millions sent to the Middle East for gender studies. The feds spent 2.3 trillion in grants from 2017-2019 on silly💩like sex ed for prostitutes, space alien detection, social media war on tanning beds, hookers for Jesus program, etc. but your solution to reducing the debt is “ kill the old folks”. Total stupidity

Not expecting the states to be 100% aligned, but we dont even have regional levels of cooperation.

And yeah the stimulus bills. Trillions just made up with a stroke of Trumps pen.
Trump did work on a plan for the state to use but as soon as he announced it and before he even finished it you had blue states say they wouldn’t use it. It didn’t matter if it was the greatest plan ever, they weren’t using it. We now have irrefutable proof that Cuomo acted in the interest of hurting Trump above all else. We also had someone in the Pacific NW admonishing people for trying to burn down a building with other people inside because it might help Trump. The blue states were out to hurt Trump no matter the cost so there was zero hope of working together in any fashion that might have helped Trump. I agree on the money. He is far from fiscally conservative.

60% of covid deaths are over 75. 32% are over 85. Life expectancy in the US is 78.5. How much of their lives is left to save? You know old people die right?

Biden's Coronavirus Relief Package Has Almost Nothing to Do With the Coronavirus

As a result, just $6 billion would be spent in the 2021 fiscal year, which runs through September. Another $32 billion would be spent in 2022, and the rest by 2028. Biden is insisting that schools must reopen soon—and also that the only way for them to reopen is to authorize more than $120 billion in spending, most of which wouldn't roll out for years. It doesn't make much sense.

Similarly, Biden's plan calls for $350 billion to backstop state budgets, which were projected to be down as much as 8 percent overall this year. Yet according to The Wall Street Journal, total revenues were down just 1.6 percent for the 2020 fiscal year, and 18 states ended the year with above-projection revenue. As Reason's Christian Britschgi noted last week, Biden's plan would disburse money to every state—including California, which is set for a $15 billion surplus. Previous coronavirus relief bills, meanwhile, have already doled out $300 billion to bolster state budgets. The billions in extra funding Biden's plan would deliver to soaring state budgets would, in all likelihood, not be spent this coming year. So much for not having a second to waste.

According to CRFB, just 1 percent of the relief plan's spending would go toward vaccines, and just 5 percent would go toward pandemic-related public health needs. Meanwhile, 15 percent of the spending—about $300 billion—would be spent on long-standing policy priorities that are not directly related to the current crisis.
